Downshift! Sunday 19th May

Hey Everyone

So Walter recently asked me to organise our future Downshift events, in which the club could attend as a whole.
I have done some talking with the organisers of these events, and have been told they would love to have us as a club there.

Therefore the first Queensland MR2 Downshift meet will be on Sunday the 19th. The meet itself starts at 3, but we have been requested by Matyas (the event organiser) to be there at 2:30pm so that we can pick out any spot we like

For those interested in coming, It is $5 per person to come in, they have DJ's, trade stalls and usually 1000+ cars. I have been to 3 now and they have all been awesome!

The Meet details: We will meet at the Red Rock Noodle bar on the corner of Riawena Rd and Kessels Road at 1:45 for a 2:15 departure. From there we will head over to the Rocklea show grounds which is on Ipswich Rd and arrive there at 2:30 or slightly before. The event itself finishes at dark.

This is a Map of the showgrounds. The red line marks the way in, and the area within the red rectangle is where I have asked Matayas for us to be. He has told me that it depends on the main event cars and what time they get there. If we cannot get this position, we will be aiming for a frontal section in the main oval.

The space within the red rectangle should be enough room for 2 rows of 8 cars, so plenty of room for our club and any other stray MR2's that may appear throughout the day (which means they can join the club ;) )

This is the day after the Clubs night run, but I hope that as many of you can make it as possible, as it is a good time to show our cars off to a larger audience

Hoping to see you all there

Just thinking (its difficult at my age) but for Downshift why don't we have something in common on the cars. I am partial to the Star Wars connection by hanging an Ewok on the back like Elliot does. Where can we get these? Maybe we could each have a different Star Wars character? I am happy to make arrangements to pick these up if people agree. Also, cars must be clean and shining brightly for the outing  , apart from the uniqueness of the design we do not want to be confused with the Skyline mob or some of the other moving rust that was at the last one I went to. Being an MR2 owner is something special and there can't be any confusion with the Fiat X19!

Excellent idea Walter. I currently have a tow strap but I will gladly move to an Ewok. I will report back on finding more star wars characters. I think it's quite fitting as our cars are essentially as fast a space ships ;)

An alternative option is to all have tow straps, as I can get a fair few of these with relative ease

I guess so far the AW11 and the MRS will look good being surrounded on either side by those common SW20's Ewok's on not.............

Guys, as much as I would like to be there to add strength to the "Force", Louise and I are committed to another event.  Have fun, and see you all at the June Run.

Danny, is this because you like Yoda, or you look like him?
