Moni's Pride & Joy

Once upon a time, there was a lady who was really keen on the new MR2's and decided to buy a brand new White Toyota MR2 GT in 1994.

The lady loved her MR2 so much, and gave the car lots of attention and made sure it was always healthy by getting regular check-ups at the Toyota Hospital.

After 10 years together, the lady had decided to go to Ireland to live and work, but she didn't know how long she would be away. She pondered desperately about whether she should store the car on blocks, or sell her pride and joy

Alas, she reluctantly decided to sell her baby and moved overseas.

When she returned in 2007 she did not think that she would ever own an MR2 again that would be in the same condition as the one she had sold, so she decided to embark on trying to find another car that she may like.

Both the 2006 Subaru Impreza and 2010 BMW 323i did not live up to the joy that the MR2 brought to the lady.

Then one day, whilst browsing for MR2's on Car Sales...........the lady could not believe her eyes!!!! Was that her baby for sale??? Her heart beat faster as she matched each digit of the VIN and was ecstatic when she confirmed that this was her original baby.

On 11 January 2012, the lady bought her car back and had it shipped over to WA.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here I am today, reunited with my baby and I would like to share some pictures of her, both when I first owned her and now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things I have done since I have got my baby back:

1. Replaced tinting to all windows (27/12/12);
2. Cut, Polish and Wax from grey to white (Christmas/New Year 2012/13);
3. Reinstalled original indicators and door sills (Christmas/New Year 2012/13);
4. 200,000km Service, replacing timing and drive belts (8/01/13);
5. WA Registered with personalised plates (24/01/13);
6. Replaced rack end and boots (21/02/13);
7. Replaced White 16" Enkei's with Gun Metal Grey 17" CR Kai WORK Wheels (23/03/2013);
8. Replaced front ball joints (28/03/2013);
9. Rebuilt both Master and Slave Clutch cylinders (28/03/2013);
10. 210,000km Service, fuel injection service & replaced all shockie strut mounts (24/07/2013);
11. Replaced front mud flaps (27/07/2013);
12. Replaced rear mud flaps (13/10/2013) Thank you >P E T E<;
13. Replaced transmission oil with correct 75w90 (5/12/13) - reduced droning noise by 80% and gears are now easier to change !!;
14. Replaced both right and left handbrake cables (12/12/13) - yes, the right one snapped after 19 years of service !!; and
15. Replaced seals around doors and targa roof (23/12/13);
16. 220,000km Service (22/07/14);
17. Replaced rear shock absorbers (22/07/14);
18. Replaced rear lower ball joints (22/07/14);
19. Replaced rear wheel bearings (22/07/14) - reduced droning noise even more another 15%, very quiet now;
20. Replaced all front and rear suspension bushes with red polyurethane bushes from TWOSRUS (22/07/14);
21. Replaced front shock absorbers (30/10/15);
22. Replaced wiper arms and blades (12/04/17);
23. Bled brake system and replaced brake fluid (19/04/17); and
23. Replaced original car mats with brand-new mats (from original template), with clips (20/04/17).

.........I will keep updating as I go.

Things on the radar to do:

1. Replace front and rear bushes (AGAIN!! - suspect the polyurethane bushes are failing after 3 years - ride is starting to feel too hard again and knock again);
2. Replace rear upper ball joints;
3. Replace engine mounts (with OEM after reading reviews on TWOSRUS);
4. Overhaul transmission (shaft bearings and gearbox);
5. Replace sun visors (no new stock left in Japan for passenger side) ;
6. Replace glove box, passenger side doors sill and interior side panel (scratched, broken and bogged);
7. Gradually replace all bulbs with LED's; and
8. Whatever other surprises the baby has for me!!

Updated 13/05/17.........to be continued..............

    No, I bought my baby back from Mr_Mi6......he was the third owner.

    I did however get back in contact with the guy I did sell it to (second owner), and he was really happy to hear that the car had returned home :-)

    Fantastic story! Think I'll take my Deuce for a drive now after reading that.

    Clearly it was meant to be.

    ^+1 great taste in rim choices, not many would satisfy me either hehe.
    Awesome how you got her back and that the previous owner was a member here which usually means it's taken care of (hopefully lol). Restorers like you make me feel okay that mine's not perfect :)
    I'll be getting rid of my shocks in about a month's time in case you're interested. They're KYB stock replacements that were fitted new in January this year. Shipping from VIC might be a killer though...

    Thanks for the offer Tree, I'll check-out the Perth extortionist prices first.......sometimes shipping from over east is cheaper than paying local mining magnate prices!!!

    Cheers,

    Having shockie mounts installed today, along with 210,000km service.......let's see if this gets rid of the knocking noises coming from the suspension!!!

    I was also having the same cold start injector issues that some of the other members have been experiencing, so also getting a full clean of the injectors. I had noticed that the car was idling at 1750rpm which it has never done before.......cold idle used to be around 1250rpm........Toyota Hospital checking it all out for me.

    I have also asked Toyota check the wiring of the dual filament brake lights fittings.

    My new mud flaps that I have bought from DB8 are ready for pick-up, so I'll be installing those on the weekend! Yippy! :-)
