Interesting...

How long would you need them for? And how long would manufacture take?

As of last night i have located some and will have them within a week from a friend so all good.

Once i have them i can mock them up on my spare hub.

Manufacture? turn around times are not so good when it comes to machining and manufacture. 3-4 weeks are average times from the initial order but like everything this varies and of course you want to make sure everything is perfect before something is sent off.

Over the years i have gone through 5 or so engineering companies with various results. That in itself should tell you how many places stuff you around when you deal with such small run orders.

REGARDLESS, i have been on the phone today with the current engineer about the new line of brackets and hope its finalised by tomorrow morning. The only thing left to do is wait.

Awesome. I will definitely be keen for the rear and front brackets to suit the Mazda and Supra rotors.

Great!

Count me in for a front kit, rear kit and stainless lines. Just let me know when you want payment, happy to pay now to help cover the cost of making these news kits if you want ;)

That's cool, thought I'd better offer :)

I'm quite pleased with all this, good to have more MR2 parts made locally.

^ Funny that isn't it?

On the same topic, is there an alternative to cutting/bending the backing plates?

Was thinking about making my own and incorporating a scoop to try and pick up more air... Should be pretty easy to bend and cut up.

No, however i am telling you now you will not need them. I know from experience you honestly will not need to have extra air in that area (using stock brake backing plates with the scoops cut and bent for clearance)

Good to hear, I'll probably just try to trim them as neatly as possible.

Just a update for everyone here.

The brackets have been mocked up and checked for fitment. I have drawn them up and sent them to be costed. I am specifying a much higher grade material for these (7075 t6) which is both lighter AND stronger than the steel myself and other shave been using previously.

Price point will be announced once i have been quoted (expect it to be similar to what the others have sold for in the past)

Could definitely be interested in these also. Just ordered a set of Gen3s to upgrade from my standard turbo brakes, with the eye to use this setup eventually. I'll need new rotors anyway, so could save the hassle and go straight for the big kit. Would be a good excuse to get my 17s sorted.

If you've got a mockup sorted, any chance you could measure the effective pad diameter? (distance from axis to pad centreline). I've just been running some calcs on brake bias, to work out what sort of proportioning you need to get the maximum brake force out of a setup. I know the mid engine setup can benefit dramatically from decent rear bias, but it would be nice to have some hard numbers.

1.5mm of the edge of the pad is no longer used due to the calipers not being setup for such a large disc change. I have confirmed this with other users of Supra disc kits and they have all said that is the way theirs are also. You cannot get closer to the hub without cutting which I don't like.

In regards to bias with this setup I would suck it and see. The fact is you can do as many theoretical calculations but real world adjusting is the most important thing.

Plus you will need to actually weigh your car and not use a online average weight etc.

I don't think there will be any bad effects on brake bias from this setup. After all, the piston sizes aren't changing, and you're increasing the lever arm on both front and rear, so the ratio shouldn't change much from stock. That said, that doesn't mean it couldn't benefit from slightly more rear bias.
I think there is some useful info to be gained from calcs. It might not be heaps accurate, but it should be in the ballpark, and I can see what sort of effect things like MC size or tyre grip have on the overall system.
Anyway, I'll make another thread once I've come up with something. Interested in this thread though.
