There is definitely a trick to regularity. Not from my experience but via others who do quite a bit in the Regularity Series at Marulan. Looks like most of the EVOs nominated times quite off their pace because it would be "easy " to achieve. Harder to do than to drive at probably 95% of your best. My gut feel just says Travis was just using regularity as 9 extra track laps chasing the red EVO. WOT ...Does Trav know any other way? I think we had a quick chat at the back of the garages with the red EVO driver who said his mirrors were full of red BMW for most of the time turns 4 through 8/9 till the EVO disappeared down the straight each lap. Ironic that the red EVO "pace car" helped Trav to do so well in the regularity.

So a good result in regularity can make you win outright irrespective of performance in the other events? Sounds heavily weighted towards the regularity result. I accept the result though don't like it. It's not fair. Each event should be weighted equally.

WIDEMR Nice to catch up with you all! I had a depressing time ha ha, hard to sit and watch everyone and not wish my car was there! My car was the heaviest car we had on the scales 2.2Tonne! (well my work ute. That was with all my weight reduction i did before i left by taking ladders off, tools, most stock out ect) Was a tad heavier when i was towing the supra and trailer at 1AM back to the track, boy did i have no brakes!
Definitely a finalist for the "Good Samaritan" class, along with B24 who donated his shifter cables so the SA car could get home to Adelaide in time for work on Thursday. Hard though to take it away from Asimovy (Iain) who had offered to drive home to Sydney to get a set of cables from his car, drive back to Wakefield and then home to Sydney to start work on Wednesday morning. Would have meant 660km and around 6.5 hours driving. Don't think the Adelaide guys quite appreciated what this gesture involved. More than half the time and distance of their one way Wakefield -Adelaide trip. Longer than a trip from Adelaide to Rennmark and return. Not all that sure that Iain did eiher. If Iain's attitude doesn't exemplify the spirit of the MR2 Track Day Challenge and the MR2 community in general, I don't know what does.

Chill and bathe in the glory that Ken's AW11 was quickest by a good margin on the main circuit. Well deserved in a car that I would perceive to be considerably harder to drive well than most EVOs. In no way take this as an attack on the robot cars or taking anything away from the EVO drivers. They still have to be driven well but you personally told many of us how easy you thought they were to drive quickly. Weighting is always going to be a problem when we have such disparite cars. We all achieved what we went there for. We all had fun. Perhaps we could give 2 wheel drive cars a 0.4 sec handicap over the 4WD brigade. That would have put a different slant on the friendly rivalry between two good mates -- just joking Joyce before I get totally flamed.

Yes it is always great that people are willing to lend a hand and get people home. Not sure why if you have a crap placing in a event, any event for that matter do you think it should not count or affect the overall placing? *EDIT* was not going to add this bit, but this sort of crap after the event each time about things like this puts a dampener on the event for me. People just never seem to be happy #shrugs#

Wasn't it some Bradman guy who got one last duck to drop his average from over 100 to 99.94

I have just arrived home after an epic trip, car didnt miss a beat, havent worked out hows many k's yet. Thanks to Steve for a great event, Wakefield is a great track. Glenn it was made pretty clear on the first day that the weighting was in favour of the regularity and that a good performance would be required in that round.

Then the outright placings mentioned earlier aren't overall are they? They are actually results of the regularity if they are heavily weighted that way. Why can't we have true outright placings as well as regularity placings? Where is the recognition for the guys that consistently pumped out fast times in every time attack session? There were 7 time attack sessions and the silver EVO won 5 of them. I've had my say. I'll back off now and shut up.

That damn regularity killed me lol. I think next year we should just do our 9 laps and calculate average lap time. Difference between average lap and each of the 9 laps laps should be added together for a total score. Divide this by 9 since we've done 9 laps to bring the weighting back down to 1 lap weighting like each of the other events. I think that's the fairest way to do it.
I'm not fussed either way. I had a great time and that's the important thing. Not who got which trophy.
I really enjoyed duking it out with Travis. So damn close for all the time attacks. If I go winton or phillip island I'll let you know and we can go for round 2 and/or 3!

Yeah it was friendly banter and those sorts of things make it more fun. Not taken too seriously and you genuinely want to beat the other person, but you also want it to be so close to make it interesting. Adrian if you ever wish to come down i have a room spare too, so if you do think of coming down let me know. I would like to do Winton sometime early this year to set a time anyway. I have not done Phillip island since i was 18 and Sandown i have never driven (have been around there but not me driving)

Hi Guys Just saw this event when I was browsing the web. If I can fit it into my schedule I will definitely try and make it next year. My lap times should be OK but I will need to get in some extra practice to make sure I can perform well in the Regularity. Well done Steve. Regards and best wishes Seb

Over the last few days since the event, I can't stop thinking about the various corners of the Wakefield track. I'm sure I'm not the only one hahaha. I've been re-watching a lot of videos from Wakefield on youtube, which is much more useful to me now, having actually driven at Wakefield for the first time. At the event there were so many thoughts running through my mind, not to mention the beginner's nerves, but now that I've had a few days to relax and think, I've realised that there are so many little ways in which I can prepare and improve my lap times next year! I assume that it's probably the same for any beginner...the first time at the track is quite nerve-racking at times, so you don't really have a chance to properly analyse where you're losing time on each corner. Also, at this year's event I couldn't help but stress about breaking something on my car (because I only just got it back, with heaps of power), but after seeing how well it handled the event I'll be slightly less worried about that next time. As you can see, I'm already looking ahead to next year, and hoping to be a bit more competitive. This year I just wanted to learn the track layout and have a lot of fun, which I certainly did! I may go to at least one trackday at Wakefield this year so I can start improving my times before next year's event.

lol, me too. I remember when I drove my car around, feeling a bit uncomfortable taking a corner at 50 or 60 (probably would have been slower if I didn't have someone in the passenger seat telling me not to back off, lol)......... then looking over at the speedo when I was passenger & we were doing 120 around some of them................ screaming a little & laughing at the same time............. and being laughed at................. So difficult to get back into the working mode..........................

Happy to have you at the event next year Sebastian. We may need to spend longer talking about overtaking for your sake however.
