Don't have a favourite mech, unfortunately... Most of the work done to my car was by me, and the only other person to work on it is still on holidays... An update on the brakes situation. I rebuilt the offending caliper (passenger-rear), and now there's no rub and the wheel goes sweet... NOW the drivers-side rear is pretty much locked. I'm totally stumped, and unless someone knows exactly what's happened and how to fix it within the next 2 days, I'm gonna have to pull out. Having tested it last Saturday, it was jacked up and started in gear. Both wheels spun (keeping in mind I'm still running the stock Gen 2 open dif), but you could hear the rub from the passenger side, and a seized caliper was deduced from there. Once the caliper was rebuild, the same test was conducted, and now the passenger-side spins awesome and drivers wasn't moving at all... If anyone has ideas, let me know. This is literally the only thing stopping me from going now.

Go to the local Bursons/Repco and the like and purchase the little block attachment for pushing "internal handbrake" brake calipers back. Then take the car for a drive again and hope for the best. Sometimes the handbrake mechanism sticks. The tool is not expensive and looks like this:- This one is a far better tool but costs 4 times as much as the inexpensive universal block:-

Oh and Tree, if you're able to do Marulan i am intact the more broke individual :( Will be interesting to see how the Beams go against each other, but i believe you will have the advantage on that one.

One of those could be good. If it's just winding the piston back in, that may make a difference, although I fail to see how, considering it was just fine until I rebuilt the other caliper. It's literally untouched, and now isn't working properly... As for actually winding the piston back in? I didn't bother with any special tools and just used some multigrips. They did the job just fine, albeit with a little scoring around the edge of the piston.

This is for the rear only, and you are not going to push them in if you are using multi grips as they get wound in, hence this tool. Did you lubricate the sliding pins on your calipers like Steve said a few pages back? that does make a difference. Also if you bled the brakes the caliper may have gunk in it also. More likely to be a sliding issue though.

I know the rear pistons are screw in, I used multigrips to rotate them a 1/4 turn at a time. It's a little time consuming, but not overly difficult. The sliding pins were lubricated by the mechanic friend of mine, who I offloaded the conversion onto, and the entire system has been flushed (twice) by Northpoint Toyota, the local dealer. So The fluid is definitely clean, calipers have all been rebuilt, pads are fine too. Got a friend of a friend coming over tomorrow to take a look. Chances are it'll be something simple if it managed to happen this easily.

Well, I hope it all comes together as its a great tale! My tale is a little different as I have to drop the engine tomorrow, replace the timing belt, install the head, manifolds etc, rewire a O2 sensor, reset the timing, talk with the Haltech and a few other jobs. Then there is the final prep for the trackday. There will be a list for scruitineering but its really common sense issues. Decent brake fluid, no oil leaks, tyres in fair condition, no loose objects, decent mounting for camera's, fire extinguishers are not compulsory, wrist to ankle clothing and helmets. Make sure your seat belts are in good order and the seat of secure! There will also be a mass hard drive so all footage can be loaded onto for future reference and video clip production. Also need a photographer. The best shot will be used for the awards so if this is your deal, your help will be appreciated.

It's a long (and actually quite embarrassing now that I actually realise where I went wrong) tale, but it can be saved for when I arrive. Tomorrow will involve finishing the brakes, oil change, resealing the centre part of the rocker-cover gasket, which leaks at the moment, and the oil leak down the bottom end. Then organising transport for tyres, getting a GoPro and a couple of fuel cans for the trip there! It's a long drive, after all! Hating the rocker-cover part. It's a pain on N/A's... Wishing you luck on your end, it makes my work look much easier. I know several good photographers, but I doubt they'd be willing to come to NSW just for this event, it's a 12 hour drive...

I did a day at Marulan today after finally installing my PWR radiator and I am glad that I did. Discovered the dreaded airlock in the cooling system but was able to bleed it out with some difficulty and now the temperature needle sits where it should and the radiator gets as hot as it should. Originally water at the engine was hot and the radiator only lukewarm but all OK now. Need to buy some decent gauges though as the standard temp gauge was OK one minute and off the scale the next. Marulan has a few more dips and rises than Wakefield and when pressed really hard front left suspension appears to be bottoming out. Will sort out that problem after Wakefield. Need to sort out some tyre clearance issues also even though the rear guards are rolled. Drive by wire Aurion Throttle is also a little strange; Garry Willmington had a drive and commented there appears to be a lag between when you lift off the accelerator pedal and when it actually happens. Turbo lag in reverse? Am told this can be adjusted with the right computer equipment but that too will have to wait till after Wakefield. Just a wash and a bit of guard massaging to avoid some tyre rub with the larger wheels and tyres and ready for Wakefield. Tree, saw your name in the bookings for Wednesday so I guess seeing it was my suggestion, I will be at Marulan on Wednesday too. Knightrous, saw your interest in Marulan in an earlier post but you need to know that they do have serious noise restrictions there - sometimes fixed by a coil of chicken wire in the exhaust.

Goulburn weatherhttp://www.eldersweather.com.au/nsw/southern-tablelands/goulburn Weather looks like it might be quite cool with a forecast late shower on Monday. Monday 26, Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 23. Take note of the nighttime minimums too. Down to 10 degrees or below quite often on summer nights

I'll just bolt the street exhaust back on, it will be quiet enough you only need ear plugs :) I will be possibly booking my entry for Marulan on Monday pending I have enough cash left :P
