Club Run Sunday 17th of March 2013 - Moody's Valley Madness

SECOND RUN FOR 2013

The second run for this year will be held as previously advised on Sunday the 17th of March 2013, in keeping with our policy of the third Sunday of each month.

As we went north in February we are going south west in March. Originally we thought that crossing the border into NSW would be a good idea, but recent heavy rains in the area means that not all the roads in NSW are up to their usual standard. However, we have discovered some great twisties just north of the range in our own state and it's time we gave these the MR2 tick of approval.

So, the Run on the 17th of March will start at 9.30am for a 10.00am departure.

The meeting point is the Shell Servo car park at Jimboomba on the left hand side of the Mt Lindsay Highwaypoint (Route 13) heading towards Beaudesert. From there we will be driving south towards Christmas Creek and then west past Mt Barney to Lake Maroon for lunch.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There is unfortunately no-where at Lake Maroon to buy lunch so we either have to bring our own from home, or buy something at the meeting place. To make up for lack of food amenities there will be the famous Club cake provided at the lunch spot.

After lunch we will travel further west and then turn north west towards home, aiming to come back in through Ipswich. The complete route will be recce'd in detail this coming Saturday and final details will be sent out via individual PM a few days before the Run.

As per normal Club SOP the Roll Call is below, so cancel the sleep-in and we look forward to seeing you there. It promises to be an interesting day with some great photo opportunities. As it's also St Patrick's Day there will be a prize for the best Irish-themed car and driver/observer (we don't have passengers in MR2's). Originality will be rewarded, the judges decision is final, and just wearing green-coloured undies like Roar Power does will not count as part of the dress-up. Having a green car could certainly be a distinct advantage in this competiton.

Just another reminder about the Nationals in Tasmania in late September/early October this year. The Nationals promises to be a great event and the roads in Tassie are certainly worth the trip. Although it's probably a 5000km round trip I hope we can again out-do NSW with numbers attending as we did in 2011. Hock everything you can to get there, it promises to be one of the best MR2 events this decade.

Sounds like a great run Walter, although I would strongly suggest avoiding Ipswich at the moment as there has been a massive blitz on modified cars there the past three days. Hundreds of police and 5 defect stations. Its just not worth the risk to be honest, as cars around that area are being pulled over by motorbike cops and then instructing them to go through a defect station.

Ill still attend either way, just something to be weary of

Not 100% ill be able to make this one, Nats cousin is coming over from America that weekend and the only way ill be able to go is if I convince him to go with me and Nat can take his fiancé into the city or something.

Its also the F1 GP that day. If the club run is looking like being the whole day, I will be turning around a little early and heading back home i am afraid.....

Sorry, my car is getting a few upgrades dropped in it this month in preparation for next months trackday,  so I'll be skipping this cruise (The road up Mt Barney is pretty awesome BTW).
However, about 35-40 years ago (in the stone ages), there was a device created that was able to record TV onto a tape like device and I believe now they even have them recording to some other outdated media like DVD's and Hard Drives

Ok, enough teasing the old guys. Next you'll be telling the Irish joke for St Patrick's Day about the Irishman who missed the running of the race so bet on the outcome of the replay.

If the Stone Age was VCR's, then when the dinosaurs were around in the Jurassic I can remember my dad getting the first black and white TV in the neighbourhood in 1956. It wasn't just any old TV, it was a 24 inch (whatever that is in new measurement) AWA Radiola, it was delivered on a Tuesday night, and on the following Saturday we must have had upwards of 30 neighbours in the loungeroom watching it. Sort of like living in Kingaroy now.

Sorry you won't be able to make the Run. We did an extensive recce yesterday and the Run is about 220kms. Some great new roads were found, and you know it is going to be fun when you see the sign at the start of a hill saying "Not suitable for large vehicles, caravans or semi-trailers."

With the track day you are planning on going to in April we probably won't see you until May as our April Run is on Sunday the 21st.
