ddubtoille's 1992 Turbo MR2

Hey so I’ve had my car now for over a year now so I figure I should probably start a build thread.
As many of you already know I bought it off of JDMR288 so most of this will be things you’ve already seen before.

1992 Toyota MR2 GT-S  Hard Top Japanese Import

I purchased it back in November 2011 and have done a few things to it already but most was done by the previous owner (in time I’ll have more money)
All the things that have a * where in the car when I bought it

The Engine bay
*Original 3SGTE
*Upgrades Ct20b Turbo
*Apexi Intake with Pod Filter
800cc SARD Injectors
Bored out 3SGTE Gen2 Twin Feed Fuel Rail by Road and Track
Ebay knock off SARD Fuel Pressure Regulator
Walboro 255lph Fuel Pump
*3” Blitz Nur SpecR Exhaust System
*De-Cat 3” Dump Pipe (looking to get a high flow cat if anyone has any recommendations)
Haltech Platinum Sprint 500
*Haltech 3 Bar Map Sensor
*Colling Pro Sidemount Intercooler kit with Davies Craig 9” Puller Fan and Totenkopf Shroud
*Totenkopf Polished Engine Lid Shroud with twin 11’ SPAL Fans
*Polyurethane Front and Rear Engine Mounts
LED engine bay lights (pics page 3)

Interior
*Momo Steering Wheel
Genuine Leather and Red Stitch Shift Boot
Drift Carbon Fibre Shift Knob
*Drift Digital Boost Gauge
*Drift Digital Oil Temp Gauge
*LED Bright White Interior Lights
LED Strip Boot Lights (pics page 2)
*Genuine “Man in Dandism” Floor Mats
*Speed Hut Guage Cluster
*Alpine CDA9886 Headunit
*Alpine TypeS 12” Sub
*Alpine DDLinear Speakers and Tweeters
*Alpine 300wrms Mono Amp
*Kenwood 500w 4ch Amp
*TwosRUs Brass Shifter Bushings
*TwosRUs Shifter Base Bushings

Exterior
*JDM Amber Front Indicators
*Gen3 Kouki Tail lights with reverse camera (not hooked up to a screen though)
Gen3 Spoiler
Pheonix Power Rear Pods
6000k HIDs
*T18 Tinted Windows
Shine Auto Spec  A (in the mail right now hopefully will be here soon)

Brakes and Supension
*R32 GTS-T 4pot Front Calipers with QFM A1RM Pads and Steel Braided Goodridge Lines
*LS400 315mm Rotors
*Rays Gramlight 57Max Wheels 17x8 +33 in the front 17x9 +38 in the rear with Feberal 595 RS-R on the rears and Nankangs up front
*Rays Duralumin Locking Wheel Nuts
*JIC Magic FLT-TAR Coilovers
*Cusco Master Cylinder Stopper
DeltaV Sway Bar Reinforcement Plates
Carbing Rear Strut Brace

I’m pretty sure that is everything if I think of anything ill just add it to the list

My ultimate goal right now is just getting it looking nice again, I feel I’ve done enough performance mods for it at least for the mean time. Right now I’m just working on getting the exterior how I want it. All I need to do is buy the side skirts I want (Shine Auto) and It will be ready for a respray.
I also want to clean up the engine bay a bit I’ve been tucking things when I think of it, and ill eventually paint the rocker cover and hopefully polish up some of the other engine bits if I have heaps of time.

The only other future mods I can think of would be upgrade the rear Calipers, either rebuild or replace the coilovers (one is seized and I can’t raise or lower it), maybe upgrade the ignition system a bit, oh and definitely some more suspension bits like sway bars and such.

I’ll be updating this as I go, I’m constantly thinking of more things I want to do, unless this car gets written off I don’t think the moding will ever end.

Elliot

Yeah hopefully won't be too long before their on there. The rear pods need to be properly fitted still as you can see there's a bit if a gap on the bottom. Right now their only zip tied on lol I just wanted to see how the fitted

Engine bay's looking heaps cleaner than the last time I saw it.  Let me know if you ever want a hand/ideas with the tucking.

Haha yeah pretty much since I saw your car it motivated me to keep mine clean, and to hurry up and paint the valve cover which I'll do soon. Ever sinc I bought the car that was one thing I had to do (I used to be a Honda guy so I'm all about red crinckle paint lol)

Looking great in the photos Elliot but it looks even better on the Runs.

Where's the tow-hitch to help out the Honda's when they break down?? Also, red crinkle paint?? You should be ashamed of yourself. I'll have to ask Nat to have a very strong talk to you.

The plain alloy rocker cover looks hideous and it doesn't clean up at all. The only options is polish or paint. And I'm not a fan of polished rocker covers too much shiney.

I had the ones in the ADub ceramic coated by a guy at Archerfield who does race cars and dragsters.  The ceramic can be done in various stages of shine and the huge advantage of it is that unlike chroming or bad polishing you don't get microscopic bits of the metal flaking off and going in the engine.
You have to get them off to do it, although I found a second set on eBay and had them done, plus I have a small spray booth in my workshop where I used engine enamel to highlight the engine lettering details after masking them out.

The black looks good, but Honda red???? Barf! Really just making fun of Honda cars of course, their bikes are tops (I had a GoldWing 1500 SE for years).
Its always just a matter of individual taste, and some things look good (like Elliot's wheels which are fantastic on his red car, and which I am thinking of nicking to put on my SDub ), while you see some of the huge chromies on the doof-doof machines that look like the metal cutters on a Roman chariot.
Personally I think Elliot and you have done a top job on your cars. The SDub's in my opinion have a really well-sculptured shape that is timeless, which will cement the place of relatively unmolested ones as classics in years to come. The 1989 Ferrari 348 and the SW20 look so alike, and you don't see people messing about with the look of the 348.
I like originality, or as close to original appearance as possible. Of course the paint and finish technology has moved on so much since these cars were built that there are other alternatives out there. Your black crinkle did look the part.

Thanks Walter, I too agree on keeping them looking as original as possible but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna alter the look of mine a little ;) I like to be a little different.

Thanks to Totenkopf today I got a "new" Carbing rear strut brace!
