WTB: Stock air filter box & By pass valve SW20

Hey guys I just bought an SW20 from Brisbane and I found out after getting it back to NSW that it has no compliance plates. As such I am currently getting together everything I need to pass compliance but I still need an air filter box, there is a pod filter on at the moment, and a by pass valve before I can pass compliance. The air filter box isn't essential, all I really need is for the pod filter to be enclosed, so worst comes to worst I can hack together something from another car. If anyone knows of any aftermarket by pass valves that will fit an MR2 or anything else to loop hole this, that would also be helpful.
Cheers.

'bypass valve' do you mean a blow off valve?

What do you mean when you say no compliance plates? Has the car been registered anywhere in Australia before?

Not going to give you lessons on sucking eggs (never really understood that statement) but some cars have been imported into the country as 'never to be registered', if they weren't complied to aus standards with the state compliance plate they can only be used as off road/race only.

Hopefully not the case with the car you have picked up.

I have read the car comes stock with a bypass valve not a blow off valve, which I believe looks like . However I am willing to concede to any terms in definition if you have the stock part.

The car can be registered in Australia and has been for many years before I owned it, I didn't even think about it being a problem as I drove it down here on the previous owners registration. The only reason we didn't transfer the registration was you can't transfer Queensland rego to a non Queensland resident.

But yeah it still has been a major pain, thanks for the concern, believe me when I found this all out I thought I was going to have to sell the car as a track only car. But I have been in contact with an RTA certified engineer for some time now who assures me it will be fine.

I would have thought that the car passing any state in Australia and having the Qld compliance plate (it should have this, think the Qld ones are yellow, possibly green) should be riveted up against the front firewall in of the drivers position))
... should mean that the car has met Australian safety standards, I would have assumed that with this the car would only need a blue slip to let RMS (RTA) know that it all ok.

So, you are looking for the factory valve that often gets replaced with the 'ffff tsssh' after market vent to atmosphere valve?

I have a  factory one with the pipe it joins on to if that helps. where a bouts in Sydney are you?

Bypass valve I would say you refer to the resonator the little box that comes off the main filter box that muffles the sound of the intake really.

Unless its a turbo then you could be referring to a number if things.
    Blow off valve,
    Dump pipe
    Etc

I have one however not willing to part with as when I sell mine, I would like to retune it to stock

Here is nice large picture of a stock MR2 engine bay (Generation 2) in case your not sure what yours should look like stock.
The stock bypass valve you need is noted as a blow of valve in the pic.

    Hope that helps

Edit: It is an American car as it has the EGR emissions stuff attached to the inlet manifold.

Bypass valve is the more correct term for the factory fitted (what most refer to as a) bov.

Easiest way to pass inspection is to fit a block off plate as it can be hard to find a std one, or if you bov can be routed back into the inake pipe that should suffice.

as mentioned already, bypass valve and blow off valve are the same thing..
i have a HKS SSqv with the recirculating fitting which will/has passed regency/rwc
basically if you have it plumbed back into the intake system it should be legal to pass. so any recirculating BOV/bypass valve will do you dont have to find the stock one if thats any help. (or just borrow one from someone on the forums close to you. clear the car and hand it back over)

    cheers

Turbosmart make a great aftermarket plumb back legal replacment for the bypass valve, one of my friends fitted this to his sw20 when he got epa,

But you will need to find the turbosmart to mr2 adaptor, they are pretty cheap.
