1990 M/T fluid???

Hey all,

I'm finding that i'm starting to get a bit of grinding here and there when shifting, what gearbox fluid is everyone using that could solve this?

I've heard that good things about Redline Shockproof Lightweight and not so good things about Royal Purple......any suggestions?

    Na or manual
I've heard the shockproof is terrible
    Either get new synchros
Or get mt90 by redline but keep in mind you can only use that
And when you do rebuild your gearbox it will be a pain to get off everything as it sticks to it like glue..

Also it will only help slight crunching
    Best just get a rebuild

    What oil are you using?
    Only use a GL4 75W-90.  Don't put in anything with GL5, GL6, or GL4/5 on the container.

Check out the many forum posts on this subject.

    It's a manual E153 for a GT.
So much info!!  cheers guys.  I have no idea what's in it at the moment.  The gearbox feels strong but sometimes crunches either when shifting into 2nd or reverse.

the car is going in for a major service shortly and i was looking at getting the gearbox sorted out as well.

The last lot I think I paid about $28 per quart bottle  (946 ml)
So you'll need 3 bottles, and have a bit left over for the next change.

    Yes, fully synth.

    Hi Reddtarga,
    Please excuse my impertinence.
My reading of BGB shows 4.2 litres for E153 Transaxle ?

Correct,  the turbo box takes 4.2 liters.
I was thinking about my S54 that only takes 2.6 liters.

    Thanks!
So how does it compare to other fluids you've used?
I think my 3rd gear synchro is not the best...

Reverse will crunch no matter what,
    It dosnt have. Synchro
So you have to be practixly dead stopped to change into it without crunching also don't try and get into reverse like your changing gears at a racetrack, nice and easy into reverse
I've had three jap cars and all had that problem
Found out they didn't put synchros in the reverse gear.

Don't bother getting one synchro, it will be like 3-500$ just for the synchro
    If you get it fixed
Have it fully rebuilt with strengthend synchros and bearings
If your going to bother, if not try amsoil good **** that stuff
    Or caltex easy shift
    Good luck
