18" wheels & offset

Hey everyone,

So I can pick up a set of 18's cheap with the following specs and want to know if they'd fit basically.

The wheel specs I'm looking at buying:

Fronts 18X8 +33, with 215/35 tyres probs
Rears 18X9 +33, with 245/35 tyres probs

After inputting the info on Gordaens calculator:
MR2 (mkii) Flushness:
Your proposed front wheel will be 2.35 mm farther out than flush (flush offset: 35.35).
Your proposed rear wheel will be 2.35 mm farther out than flush (flush offset: 35.35).

Wheel Comparison:
Your proposed front wheel will stick out 37.4 mm farther than your old wheel.
Your proposed rear wheel will stick out 37.4 mm farther than your old wheel.

Speed Comparison:
Old rear tire revolutions per kilometer: 525.
New rear tire revolutions per kilometer: 506.
New rear tire is at 104KPH (65MPH) when spinning at the old tire's 100KPH (62MPH) RPM.

So the wheels stick 2mm farther out than flush, cant this be put right by adding more camber?
I'm getting all my arches rolled and have BC racing coils with adjustable camber.
'94 rev3 mk2 turbo.

Can someone check this over for me haha.. can this work? or do I need higher offsets

Also curious as to what specs/offsets you other members running 18's are using.

Thanks,

James

Should fit quite nicely with those sizes/offsets. As you've mentioned it will be pretty much flush; they shouldn't stick out of the guards, the cars natural camber when you setup your coilovers will more than cover the 2mm.

8" + 9" +35 is very common for SW20's, plenty of people running those sizes without any issues

You may have minimal clearance from the coilovers at the front, but it should be OK.

There is an extensive build thread for my car here: http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=18316

You can't go completely by that calculator since you have coilovers. The fronts could be a problem. I have tiens and 18x8 with +33 will actually hit my springs. I had to go 7.5's at the front to be able to just miss the springs by 2-3mm. Your best to try them on or measure it out based on your current wheels. Another thing is that width/size is likly to rub the inside of the wheel covers at full lock, near where your pedals are.

All depends on what type of tires you use. if they have the rim protector on them then you will have issues in the front.
i have 17x8 +35 in the front with tires that had a rim pretector on it and the rim protector part was hitting the coilover springs, i had to use a 5mm spacer to clear it.
normal springs/lowered springs are ok, but as soon as you go coilovers they will cause trouble with this offset or higher offsets.

From my experience of fitting heaps of various different wheel size/offset combos, they should fit fine. You may find the fronts will stick out a little at the front. As mentioned, there is a very small probability you may come across coilover clearance issues, but this is pretty unlikely in this size.
