epaaa

got a lovely letter today from epa apparently a police officer noticed my car was to loud on a sunday morning 2 am, i dont remember even being there at the time lol but now i got a exhaust noise test to pass,
i dont even know what the standard db reading is, any ideas ?

    Your car has to be quieter then 90db. If you have an aftermarket exhaust odds are you wont pass.
    Best option is have a interchangable end section, the guys that do the testing are usually an exhaust shop and thye will give you some options.

    Stock exhaust was 92 db pretty sure
    What state was this in

    In VIC when I got tested years back the regs were 90db for cars after around 1982 or something. Pre 1982??? were allowed 96db. They test the car at half its rev range, my race Z at the time made 124db at 3,500 rpm. Even with a rear section that reduced from 2.5inches to 1 3/4 inches in a triple bend muffler it only made it down to 96db.

    its in vic ill never pass i got straight 3 inch nothing else, but i thought standard would be louder then 90db or even 92 considering the lenght, i have been thru it before but never with an mr2, ill put the standard exhust on and put a plate in between the flange drill someholes and take it straight out after worked on my rx7 , there should be special rules for cars that have less then a metre exhausts lol
