As of Thursday, there was 6 places remaining. To keep up to day, like their facebook page -
https://www.facebook.com/slidewizemotorsport The way the Slidewize days are run, the day is split into two sessions. First up in the morning are 'skid sessions', a course is marked out on the pan, a horn sounds and two cars (spaced half a lap apart) go out and slide around for 2 mins, then another horn will go off and you reverse direction and go again for 2 mins, the the horn will sound twice consecutively, and you get off the skid pan, do the loop up and queue again. I think I managed to get 7-8 sessions in the morning last time and spent most of it practicing hand brake turns and a bit of sliding car control.
Lunch then kicks off for an hour, free food (BBQ) and drinks for competitors.
The last half of the day is a motorkhana. At the Jap VS Aus day, it was broken down into 3 sections:
Go N Stop - The skid pan is split in half and cars line up on both sides. You drag race down the bitumen section, onto the skid pan then have to stop it inside 4 cones. First one stopped in their box wins. Points allocated for amount of wins.
Figure of 8 - Skid pan is split in half, cones mark out a figure of 8 in each half. Two cars line up against each other, first to complete two figure of 8 and stop back in their starting box wins. Points allocated for amount of wins.
Sprint - A course that starts on the bitumen, cuts across the inner loop and onto the skid pan, then follow the course marked out on the skid pan before exiting onto the bitumen again and stopping in a box. Points awarded based on cascade of fastest to slowest times. This is run twice.
Here is a video from one of my skid sessions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBDlakktaHo While it's not the most exciting session (compared to the sprint!), but I found it as a good opportunity to practice those skills you don't use on the street or track too often :) Like handbrake turns and some full lock counter steer (this helped me a bunch of times at Wakefield :P)
