Couple of MR2 questions
Hey guys, so just recently I've bought myself an MR2 off a family friend and it isn't in the best condition, so I had a few questions to ask... I've looked around and found that parts are hard to come buy for an 1992 toyota MR2, and wanted a bit of advice on where to look to obtain these parts which need fixing (from what I know needs fixing). The parts are as follows: - Door seals - Gearbox rebuild / fix up I've gone to several places and asked but haven't had any luck, unfortunally. Does anybody from South Australia have any idea on where I can pick up these things? Thanks!

Hi SeeJay - Welcome! I've found local wreckers to not really have much in the way of MR2 parts or if they do they KNOW they're rare these days and try and charge silly amounts for worn out bits. Best bet for the door seals would be just to put up a Wanted To Buy on this forum. Someone in the country would probably have what you're after and postage shouldn't be too bad. Re gearbox, I am actually in the process for trying to find a good gearbox place so i'll let you know. :) I get most of my new parts from Lithia Toyota in the US or Amayama Trading, they're prices are much cheaper than Toyota Aust.. Cheers Josh

If you can't find anyone to rebuild the transmission, you can always send it over to Gearbox Express in Sydney.

Whereabouts in SA are you? There are a few interesting fixes for door seals etc. that are really cheap and do a good job :) If you're at a loose end, and in the city, flick us a PM and bring the car over so we can have a look over it :)

Thanks for the posts guys. I've thought about going to a wrecker and seeing if they have any parts but I haven't gotten around too it, I've checked out clark rubber and all that, no door seals there. As for the gearbox I've asked around and have been told they're extremely hard to come by, so maybe it'll be better to just get it rebuilt (if anyone in SA can do it, that is) If not, I may have to get everything overseas, was just curious if anyone here actually sold these parts before I even looked into that. As for the area I'm living, that would have to be Seaford. Cheers!

Wreckers pretty much are useless for these cars, especially any in adelaide. For secondhand parts, this forum is probably your best bet. There's always a few cars being wrecked, and prices are usually pretty good. Beyond that, the forum sponsors can usually track down most of the bigger stuff for a good deal. Twosrus have a pretty good range of new miscellaneous parts. Shipping is a bit more from the states, but prices are still good. I got new T-top seals, door handles, etc. Amayama (+ Toyodiy) or Lithia Toyota can get you pretty much any OEM part if you can't source it elsewhere. As for the gearbox, I'd be inclined to look for a replacement, so long as its from a trustworthy source. I've got the Gen3 box in mine, as it has better synchros I think, and LSD.

Cheers for the replies @Carmikey, I'm looking for a non-turbo gearbox, the problem with it is that it's getting old and second + third gears are crunching @MRvirgin, my MR2 is red! @blacky83, I've had a look and it seems like a good idea to buy parts from there, I'm not really bothered about prices either so I may look into doing that. @EssDub, a nonturbo gearbox, haven't had any luck at all finding one!
