15k! I'd expect you to pay half of that, including parts, cooler & maybe ecu upgrade (pfc).
I'm talking a built 2L bottom end & serviced head too.

Okay update on my situation = seen better days... I've got the car in at stones engineering up near bilambil heights and my options are as followed... 1. Rebuild my current motor at a cost of 10-12 grand and that is a complete rebuild ( happy to pay if I had 300 at the wheels ) which I think is a bit steep. 2. Buy a second hand motor and have its up and running for around 5-6 grand... I can't find a 3sgte 3rd gen anywhere .. It's times like these I wish I was. Mechanic or knew a little bit bout the mr2 . Any help would be much appreciated

10-12 k sounds excessive to get it 'rebuilt', I'd want it all forged and head-flowed, tuned etc for that. I think the "U" on the end is one with Jap pollution control. :)

if you give us an IDea of your location, maybe someone can point you in the direction of a local MR2 expert 10-12k seems a bit excessive for a full rebuild. cheers

Yeah I said the same thing to the mechanic, mrturbo... Skylighter I've been shopping around and the engines are actually the 3sgteu .. .. So it's the same engine just with pollution control on it . I'd imagine that would drop some horsepower too am I right? I found one for 1750

So what actually wrong with your engine and what is included in 10-12g bill?

gen3 only the ADM/GRP A st205 had EGR/pollution gear. i've never seen a JDM gen3 with pollution gear. just forget about the whole U on the end. the early st162 adm 3sge(non turbo) and the st185's had EGR, but you'll delete that with a rebuild etc. but as said, no turbo JDM 3sgte i've come acrosss has had egr, only ADM. and seeing as the turbo mr2 was never released in australia, it means your JDM gen3 doesn't have EGR 9exhuast gas recirculation) you need to list whats involved in the 10-12k. that sounds like it would involve a turbo upgrade? if you want to go full rebuild, source all the parts via dylmrt as it's alot cheaper than getting the mechanic to supply as they will go through their retailers and you'll be paying top RRP australian over the counter prices.

Purple5 I'm at gladstone but the cars at an engineering place in tweed, he's the only bloke that would even look at it for me.. And 10-12 is a bit ugly if you ask me..
Dasic1 he said the motor has been cooked pretty well done he's informed me that every part of the motor would basically be made from scratch or brand new, I asked him if I would have any extra power and he said no, I can't justify spending that much for a strong STANDARD motor, what's missing from your engine mate?
Justace what's the difference between gen 3 and gen 2 , there's plenty of gen 2 around ..... Thanks for all the help so far guys

I can't remember exactly but from the top of my head there is no sump, oil pump and pick up. It's in unknown condition so would best suit a rebuild but I was thinking maybe bits could be used to fix yours, but without knowing what's wrong its a bit hard. Sounds like you need to maybe find a new mechanics, even if you need to have your car towed a fair way Has he disassembled the engine?

If you already have a gen3 stick with that.
Options you have is to buy a halfcut, use the motor to replace yours and sell of all the extra bits you wont need.
Or find someone else to rebuild said motor.
