"nervous in the rain or when driving spirited through corners"Toe out on the rear is not a good idea, not for a street car anyway, especially with the early models that are twitchy enough anyway without making it more so. Just my opinion of course. Even with the updated suspension, ('92+models) the Toyota service manual still recommends using toe in on the rear.

The setup sheet has .8mm toe IN on the sheet tho. On the machines I have used to carry out wheel alignments, positive toe has referred to toe in and negative has referred to toe out. I agree that the rear should be toed in or square (if you brave), but not 5mm total toe in like the factory specs. That is overly conservative, aimed at anyone being able to buy the car and drive it without any issues.

Baby's spending the night at Stopmaster Brakes. Snapped a hand brake cable. Then when he put her up & checked things out, he found that something had been jammed on. I was concerned about why I hadn't notice, but he said it was only the outer?? or did he say inner?? can't remember. Anyway, he said it was something that wouldn't have been very noticeable for most people......... Rear brakes need replacing too. I knew rear brakes were coming up, just thought I might have got a few more months. aaahhh well taking finances away from the "Nationals" fund.

I recently removed all my handbrake stuff from my race car to save weight. I still have all the parts. Let me know if you need anything.

Thank you, but he's already ordered the parts. But I will let him know, just in case there is anything else needed. Hoping to have her back tomorrow afternoon.

Hi Glenn, All fitted & fixed, when he drove it up the road & pulled the hand brake on the, other one snapped. He suggested changing the front one as well. So I'll take the right hand rear & the front cable if they are good. He also said that the ratchet handle has some teeth that are worn, so he may as well change that while he's got everything apart. How much for those 3 bits. I'll PM you with my phone no. Cheers.

I don't know if I can do this again. Had such a great time at MTC & then on the club cruise. She has been going perfectly for ages. Now I've got an alternator issue again, still under warranty. The guy that did it isn't happy about getting involved again because he initially put her on the hoist for the Auto Electrician next door & found other stuff that needed fixing, so I got him to do it all while she was up there. He seemed genuine & helpful at the time. Should I cut my losses & sell her to someone who can love her & work on her themselves??? Would still come to MTC tho & keep in touch.

Should have updated earlier about the alternator. Fixed at Auto Electrician under warranty. I also got them to fix a couple of little issues inside the drivers door at the same time. All good now. As soon as I got back in I realized I couldn't sell her. hand brake failed again last night. Feels like none of the cables are attached. She is now at Stopmaster. I guess I can be thankful that when things go wrong it is when I am close to home & not on a run/cruise or MTC/Nationals.

Wow. I've never had problems with handbrake cables, even in a friends one who does handbrake slides everyday, his is still good.
Sucks :(

If you are having so many issues, you must be doing lots of km's which is a good thing! Ask Ethan if he can have a look at the handbrake issue. He may be able to help. Steve Notley is another one who can help out. Sorry to see you had so much trouble with the electricals. It can be pretty painful.. Even if you move it on, you always have a home at MTC!

Thanks Steve. Electrics all good now. One of the rear hand brake cables snapped in October & was replaced with a new one. When they took her for the test drive another cable snapped, so to save money was replaced with a 2nd hand one. I called Ethan & he couldn't get a cable for a month. mrmr2 has a new cable & my friend at Stopmaster will fit it for me. I was thinking the other day, she has become a sort of "project" car for me, lol. The main difference is that things get replaced/fixed when they break. Where most of you guys "decide" to do the things & know what other things are good to change/fix at the same time. Have spent too much on her now to let her go.

I wouldnt say that. A lot of us have some kind of problem/failure that snowballs. Ive done handbrake cables, speedo cables, speedo drive gears, driveshafts, wheel bearings, hubs, had to rewire front lights, alternator, starter motor, kills a supercharger and snapped a crank. Plus lots of other little bits n pieces.

Hand Brake all fixed now.............................Next thing...................... Clutch has been not quite right on & off for a couple of weeks, mainly when she is cold. She was due for a service anyway. She needs a Slave Cylinder. Is there anything else I should get them to check / replace while they are doing that. The clutch itself is only about 18 months old, so that will be ok.

Just need to check the slave cylinder is not leaking. Even giving the clutch system a flush with new fluid may help.

The problem is that the slave cylinder is leaking. He topped up the fluid so she will be ok until the new part arrives in a couple of days.
