Knightrous You hoon Shaz!
^^^^ hahaha. Ok, knowing that I'm not a hoon. Thoughts on tyres. Staying with 195/55 Went to Argy Tyres in Broadmeadow today. They've said either Faulken ZE912 $119.00 or Pirelli P1 $159.00 They said Faulken's are good, but the Pirelli is better. ....................................................... Sitting here typing this & texting a couple of ppl, think I've decided, but other opinion is sometimes good too

I recently fitted Pirelli P1s all round on my wife's Merc and can't fault them. Very grippy (255/35/18 though) and quiet.

A couple of people recommended Bridgestone RE002. Even though their website has Bridgestone on it, they don't usually stock them any more. They will do them for $169, so I've decided to go that way.

Re002 are much better than either of the other 2 tyres. The 912 and p1 are more comfort/economy tyres. Re002 is a proper sports performance tyre. For that price they are definitely the go.

$169 seems a good price for RE 002 195/55 R15's. They are a better class of tyre than the Falken 912's

There are a few things I can spot that are not ideal, but the worst I can see is that on the rear it says +1 mm total toe (1mm toe out) Should be -5 mm (5mm toe in) The car would be more stable with the right setting as well as better tyre wear.

Hi Shaz,
Well done on the new shoes!
Here is a shot with target data, not sure if it will be the same for your earlier model.......I can't imagine that Toyota changed too much between our models, besides aesthetics.
Cheers, M

Thanks M. Haven't seen you on here for ages. Hhmmm There is no Vehicle info or Target Date on the paperwork they gave me. She already feels way more stable with the new wheels & tyres. Should I be taking her back, or wait until October when they do a free check & rotate.

Shaz, toe settings can affect tyre wear but if the car drives ok, maybe keep it the way it is but keep a close check on tyre wear. You said you're taking it back for a check soon anyway, You can rotate your front RE002's left to right, since they are non directional. Whether or not you can do that with the rear tyres will depend on whether they're directional or not.

Hi Shaz, Yeah, been off spending money on the house rather than the car.......that is what you get when you own vintage possessions! I suspect that only Toyota will have the target wheel alignment data, unless they have an agreement with independent alignment specialists. I agree with Reddtarga though, keep an eye on your tyre wear.......typically the inside of the rear tyres, it is the first place to wear as the engine load is over the rear wheels, hence Reddtarga's suggestion about swapping sides. I have worn tyres down to the canvas on the inside once before......a lack of tyre wear attention on my part......thankfully, I noticed it before the rubber became to weak, it was only a Sunday car at that point in its life and wasn't exposed to regular day-to-day driving. If you get uni-directional tyres you wouldn't be able to do this, so keep to bi-directional when purchasing any in the future........unless you have money to burn rubber! From past experience with 20 y.o. cars, ball joints can usually make wheel alignments difficult if they are near the end of their life (my first car was a 1971 Toyota Corona with this problem). I have replaced the front ball joints on the baby last year, and am just about to do my rears lower ball joints on Monday/Tuesday. You may like to consider a wheel balance, alignment and tyre side swap (if bi-directional) every 6 months to prolong the life of your tyres. Your baby is looking good..........should be even more fun to drive now that you have the new shoes. Cheers, M

I wouldnt stress about those toe settigs front and rear. As long as you dont find the car too nervous in the rain or when driving spirited through corners, those settings are btter for wear than the factory settings. Only the camber on the 'buckled' corner will wear quickly.
