Reversing camera location.
Hey guys, hopefully someone has done iris before. I'm looking at putting in a reversing camera in the mr2. I looking for a clean install. Has anyone here done this before?
I realise I don't really need it, but I have a headunit that supports it and for $30 or so off eBay cameras could be had.

Mine site just above the rear number plates
It's also connected to my reverse gear and has the option to view on the head units display screen when normal driving
Its pretty useless at night though

I have installed one before in an SW20. I put mine in a Rev 3 rear garnish. I basically mirrored the location of the key hole if that makes sense? If I did it again I would mount it like Darius just above the number plate in the middle. I actually found it quite useful in day to day situations.

Another option I'm begginning to think about is mounting one of these above the numerplate. however the issue is twofold: there isn't really anywhere to mount it on the JDM bumper without repurposing the screw hole and also there are no night vision LEDs in these cameras... also this may not work as I woul dhave to tighten the nut somehow too, it all depends on what this would mount to, and therefore is probably not an option.

oh wow that looks absolutely amazing. Thankyou for the pic. Ok I'm thinking I'll get the flush mount one then and mount it in the same location. I'm after a stealth / factory looking install. Was it hard to install at that location? any chance of a close up on the camera? Is this mounted to the bumper or the grate? and finally what's the field of vision like? This is definitely what I think I'll do :)

I'll take some close up shots for you this weekend for the camera install and pics of the field vision Unfortunately my mate in melbourne (Phatt Audio Concepts sorry above the advertising) did the install and wired the entire system up from scratch. That was over 5yrs ago. Surely we have some remote wirless systems by now?

Awesome :) thanks for that... I'll have a look tonight on my car and see how mounting could work. maybe to circumvent having to take pix for me, are you happy with the FOV? they do have wireless systems, but meh, I'd be happy to run wires. I'm lucky enough to already have a spare RCA running to the headunit. just have to find out if there is a reversing switch / wire in the cabin...

I fitted one of these to an X-trail: http://www.ebay.com.au/it...m25791193f2&_uhb=1 It replaces one of the license plate lights, you could probably make it work above the mr2 license plate, very unobtrusive and looks factory. I hard wired mine in, the wireless is prone to interference. You could fit a couple of LEDs for illumination, they are mega bright these days. The xtrail has two normal reverse lights mounted low in the bumper and they illuminate the reverse view fine in total darkness. Reverse cameras are VERY handy! Are you guys using stereo display units or reverse mirror ones? Cheers

I bought this: http://www.catchoftheday.....php?products_id=58765 The only issue I have with that part (it does look good) is that I'm not sure the FOV angle will work nicely with an MR2. To me it looks like it would point to the ground a little too much. But I will definiltey consider using it. I guess the other thing I could do is mount it TO the light. - drill a hole through it or simiply place the camera over the light with double sided tape and screws.... using http://www.ebay.com.au/it...8#ht_6693wt_1139 I am def looking for a factory look. Atm I still like the one below the numberplate...

Cant recall the number plate light setup, but if its rectangular you should be able to fit something like I got, or just attach the one you suggested in the middle. Fair point re angle, but ideally, what is best is having it higher and pointed downwards so you can see the edge of the bumper, that way you can judge to the mm how close you are to something (its how the xtrail one is). On the mr2 however it would mean mounting on the spoiler, or beaver panel, which would not look good. Be mindful if you mount it on the bit below the bumper, the bumper edge is actually a fair bit more rearwards, so you will be hitting something before it looks very close, IYKWIM. Either way, they are an excellent reversing aid. Cheers

yeah I figure that I'll have to get used to where the view shows car to be vs where the car actually is... maybe I should mount the camera IN the numberplate :P (illegal I'm sure) Thanks for all your suggestions. :)

Hi Bigh Took some pics today for you, the camera is mounted below the rear bar behind and the wires are feed into the existing reverse lights, which makes sense i guess. Heres the mounting picture (sorry about the iphone pics) Garage- Actual Reversing Camera From the rear window Another shot of the camera further out Sorry about the pics of the display unit. They always seem to come out fuzzy. I hope that helps. Pity we dont have one of those joysticks where can angle the camera, zoom in/out like on a polycom Video Conference unit. Actual
