edit/updated with the 1989 Toyota range brochure now. :)

wiso

hey RDS what is your source on the sales figures in australian AW11's.

930 only sold locally, that's nuts, add 25 years to that and you will probably find at least 1/3 of those gone due to write offs and wreckages due to poor upkeep. maybe even half if you count all the hack jobs converted to S/C's

Makes you wonder, there aren't many original ADM AW11's left out there. Are they gonna ever become super rare and sought after? hmmmm.......

source was this:
http://mr2club.com.au/tec...Aust_Registrations.htm

also checked against vfacts (?) data I had access to a couple years ago - cant remember there being any difference.
Interestingly, at that time I also posted the last of the ZZW30 numbers here. A google search should turn up a post from me on the old forum..

Definitely know of MANY aussie AW11's that have been parted in Australia. I can think of 3 or 4 red aussie cars from Melbourne in the last 12-or-so months!
Luckily the ones that get parted we all know about, with virtually none slipping through traditional pick-a-part wreckers; so its easy enough to keep track of the decline in numbers. They're not going to disappear from the roads overnight.. or like a Camira for example, where you just keep wrecking them (thinking theres many many more..) until you suddenly realize theres none left...!
The possibility of many sitting, broken, unregistered; could also make up for the total lack of seeing them on the roads. Like older Monaro's and GT's etc; if they ever became popular for whatever reason (majorly unlikely), many more may return to the roads in the future!

I just want to keep the information out there, so we all can identify what makes them somewhat 'unique'. :)
I've got more to add to this thread, including closeups of decals and their placement, paint details, etc. Itl all be handy one day...

Have you ever considered putting together and AW11 register? It might help in getting a better idea how many are still active or out there?

there is alot of people out there who own them who have nothing to do with forums or clubs. so a register would be difficult.

rds sweet info. i love the adub. kinda makes me proud having an ADM knowing what they could become.

Perhaps, but going by the limited numbers that made it over here, and the fact it's a pretty niche car these days, I'd say most owners were enthusiasts. There's also ebay and other online sales sites, that have plenty of details of those still out there.  Just a thought anyhow.

I know this isn't ADM AW11 information, but the rarity of this definitely makes it suitable for this thread. Paul Woods has just tracked down and purchased an AW11 fitted with a Germany only Toyota factory wide body kit, known as the "Haslbeck". More information here: http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?21239-Haslbeck-Mk1-on-its-way

Brochure pics here:

The most interesting part about this body kit is, it's not an aftermarket kit, it is a 100% Toyota designed and sold option for the AW11 in Germany.

Truly a good read.. Build date on mine reads October '87. Makes me wonder how many 87's are still alive and kicking.

quite a few I would say. Most of the aussie adubs I have really seen in the circles have all seemed to be 1987 models. I have owned a few 87 builds. I have owned one 88 build

I am curious how many actual 89 builds are kicking around. I have not seen too many of this year.

The radiator overflow bottle came with an opaque plastic cap (like the reservoir itself) that disintegrated after a while, and the replacement is the much hardier black one you see in the photos.  While I can't can't categorically rule out that the later cars had the black cap, the early ones definitely did not.

Do you think that was a bit of a design fault from Toyota originally? I remember almost cooking my engine due to that seemingly insignificant piece of plastic, which at the time was the white opaque variety.

My engine cooked and it had the original white opaque cap. Co-incidence? Probably. I can't see how an overflow cap can influence the way the cooling system works.

If it clogged the overflow and caused pressure build up, I'd see otherwise, but I find that hard to believe that the factory rad cap might release excess pressure but the overflow bottle doesn't.

More Haslbeck awesomeness from the UK

Sincere thanks to Mike for scanning this excellent article in and sending it to me, a review from 1987 with some very interesting facts, makes superb reading.

Options:
- Sunroof
- Air conditioning (dealer fit)
- Two tone and metallic paint options
- Cruise Control. maybe. Its not listed as an option in the brochures I have, but its not listed as a standard feature either. I've just seen too many without it, and two magazines reviews mention in 1988 mention it as an option (at $455, and then at $650). As far as i can guess, it may well have been standard on the first lot of cars, then changed to an option.

what about roof racks? car bras? subwoofers? or were they only options in other countries?

a few motorbikes and an 87 AW11

Hello,
I have an aussie delivered 10/1987. It came with next to no documentation so I have been searching for the correct owner's manual.

PUB No. OM17414U, PART No. 01999-17414, looks close but is a LHD (USA?) manual.

Does anyone know what the correct Aussie part number is?
Regards,
SteveB
