Gen3 swap finally actioned, but won't start!! :(
We have finally finalised the Gen3 turbo swap into a 1990 JDM turbo. Unfortunately the car wont fire up. It cranks but no spark is evident. Fuel pump is working as I can hear it running and also hear the fuel moving in the engine bay, I connected power to the FP connector to make sure. The half cut fired up ok when we bought it so ECU etc should be fine. Any ideas what it could be or where to start probing? Cheers

Hey mate, Funnily enough I had the same problem when I did my swap - cranked over fine, but no spark. Double check the ignition wiring to the ECU and to the fuse box (pretty sure its red from memory) inside the engine bay, I had missed connecting a wire here and after checking for about 20 mins it started up.

Cheers for that. the only red wire in the fuse box was the 18 pin plug and its for the starter relay coil. in the same 18 pin plug the brown wire from the engine harness (pin 14) I left disconnected (goes to the air filter temp sensor and corresponding pin in ECU). The body side pin 18 of the same plug is pink (IDL) I left disconnected, it looks like its the idle position indicator from the TPS, maybe i need to run that back to the ECU? Also, in the body/engine loom connector plug in the boot, there is a green/white wire in position 15 on the gen 3 harness, not sure what this wire is for? So close!! Cheers

Arty, just a heads up. The wire colours did change through different revisions, the Red wire being mentioned could actually be a different colour in your circumstance. I know when I did my swap, the only problem I had was with the FPR Wire, got that sorted and the car ran fine. The ECU certainly needs the TPS connected, but unsure if its required it to start the car (You would assume not). Good luck, If you know someone with a PowerFC Ecu and controller that can help you diagnose which pins don't look like their wired correctly. I've got one, but my commander is all through the dash and is a pita to get out. Good luck!

Can you pull the fault codes from the ecu to give you some clues?

Thanks for your help guys, didnt check for error codes, must do that, good idea. Need to get a new battery, the old one is stuffed (borrowed battery yesterday) I manually triggered the fuel pump via the check connector and it is working fine. I must go through and double check everything. Cheers

I think I have it sussed, one of the wires in the fuse box does not have power. Pretty sure that is the issue. I will report back once I tackle it, hopefully tomorrow morning. Cheers

Its ALIVE!!! Got it going, it was the wiring in one of the plugs in the fuse box, power was not getting through the plug/socket. Gave the car a bit of run, whooo hooooo, runs sweet, only getting 0.6bar, must be on the fail safe mode, but even on this boost, it pulls very well. My mate and I had MASSIVE smiles! A few small niggles to sort out but very pleased. Thanks for everyone's help. Cheers

Oh yeah!! My mate and I are very pleased, the neighbours not so much! Didnt realise it was quite late!! oops. The exhaust is not the most quiet going around, sounds nice though! Will update my showroom thread in due course, including detailed wiring info done. Cheers
