assume it is leaking down from above whatever the cylinder shaped thing is. Not bad and slow over time. Probably getting worse. timing cover?

Can't see any leakage at all around the top part of engine leaking down. Does anyone know what is directly above/near that cylinder thingy. What is that "cylinder thingy" Highly tecnical terms here I know..

Cylindrical thingy is vacuum reservoir. Oil looks like engine oil so cam cover gasket or head gasket likely culprits but could also be gearbox axle seal throwing it everywhere. Check gearbox oil level.

All top gaskets seem ok but will double check. It has been a while since I checked gearbox so will look into that also. Gbox changes are still ok. Thanks for the replies. Bit annoyed if the top gaskets need to be redone after 2 years.

Oil leaks from the rear edge of the cam cover are very common, and distributor seals can leak too. You could try tightening the cam cover studs, that may slow it down. You'd need to remove the distributor to change the seal and then redo the ignition timing.

+2 Looks to be Engine Oil. I'd check the Rocket cover. Common problem on the Gen II's. Check Engine Oil Level. Clean all around the rocket cover and just below. Run the car until its hot. Then recheck all the area's you cleaned to see if oil is present. Good Luck, that's certainly made quite a mess!

any leaks from the rocker cover or head will end up on that vacuum can. tightening the rocker cover screws is often a waste of time. take it off and check it is sealed properly and the gasket has not gone hard. toyota originally used sealant only on he corners around the humps, but we always use the smallest amount along all its edges. also look carefully down the plug tubes for signs that the internal seals are leaking

+3 that's engine oil, I would put the car up on a hoist if you can get access to one and degrease and wash the whole motor, once its clean it will be very easy to see where it is coming from.

Thanks for the replies. Can anyone recommend a (reasonable) auto shop in the South Eastern ( Dingley Village) area of Melbourne to look see for me.
