98 Spec Toyota Sports Coupe steering wheels

As an early model SW20 owner, the time has come for me to get rid of that stock butt-ugly bus of a steering wheel. The late model 98 Toyota sports coupe steering wheels is growing on me so it's popular for a good reason hehe. I've comprised a list of cars which the 98 spec wheel came in.
  • Starlet Glanza
    Celica
    MR2
    Levin (AE111)
    Supra MKIV
    Chaser
    RAV4
From what I have gathered, there's a small fiddle with airbags and the turning signal lever. I don't think my car can run airbags so that doesn't matter to me but I just wanna make sure these 98 spec steering wheels won't affect the turn signal lever. I guess what I'm trying to say is, are they all the same? Trying find the path of least resistance or in this case, modification lol
Cheers

There will be quite an obvious gap (for me anyway) between the steering wheel colum plastic cover and the steering wheel with the 98 spec wheel thats the only reason i didnt do it.
most are ok with it, me not so much. look around for pics of it installed specifically looking over the front windscreen area where the gap is visible and see for yourself if its will be ok for you, most people are ok with it.

    cheers

Oohh they look nice. I better start saving up hehe
Thanks for the tip purple, Surok, I'll be vigilant
From both these answers I suppose there might be difference between models of the 98 spec so getting one from the SW20 is prob best anyways

I haven't been able to find a difference between the supra and SW20 one for example. they measure exactly the same.

I have a 98 spec SW20 on mine and there is a small gap between wheel and plastic, but nothing really noticable. They definitely don't foul the indicator stalks etc.

We don't have the same cars.

    You'll get a gap on a 1995 (gen3) going to a 98 spec.
    You don't get a gap going from a 1990 (gen1) going to a 98 spec.

hmm thats funny then, mine is a 90 model and i didnt get it cause there was a gap from trial fit from the seller who also had a 90 model.
maybe Big H can confirm this as he was selling it

Ignoring the gap as that's not what OP asked, and that most of us find the gap nothing to break the deal, I've confirmed with Nick that nothing needed to be changed to fit the 98 wheel on his car back in the day. No need to change indicator stalks or clock springs etc.

YEAH  nothing else needs to be changed afaik
just thought id throw this in there as i wasnt aware of it until i was about to buy it, was def a deal breaker for me, just didnt want others going through the same situation hence why i mentioned it

i certainly didnt like the look of it (gap) when viewing from outside the car into the cockpit.

    cheers
