Two MR2 Forums in Australia?
Hey, I was wondering why there is two MR2 forums for Australia? I only found the other one about 2 weeks ago by accident, but after going reading through some threads on the forum, I found that many of the people/vendors on this one, also post on the other one? Which is kinda weird when both forums are about MR2s (it would make sense if it was about different cars) and mainly about the same stuff...wouldnt it make sense to keep all in one place? Now this may sound crazy, but now I feel like I'm missing out if I dont go on the other one to check stuff, see what other people are doing to their cars and perhaps put up my own showroom thread about my MR2... Anyone else have this problem? lol.

Hi MIDNIT3, I agree entirely. I had thought that the other one was dormant & had been superseded by this one, until I saw a few recent posts. What is the story ?

This was the ONLY one for a LOoooong time. few years ago or less **** hit the fan between a few forum members on here and the admin in regards to how to run the forums etc etc etc.......(someone correct me if im wrong as thats my understanding of it) and eventually a new group was started and a new forums created which is the OTHER MR2 forum. its mainly a sydney based forum i believe as a lot of members(who run/manage the forums etc) are from there. i think its was wayyyyyyyyyy better when there was just one forum with lots more resources to share and parts for sale/trade etc etc etc... but this is how it is now you will find most members on here are also there(myself included) but with a different username for some.. i personally would like to see just one forum but am not fussed about having a few, whatever works for everyone.. cheers

purple5ive summed it up pretty well. The other forum was a bit quiet recently, for reasons that are too hard to explain, and I don't want to accidentally say something that will annoy any of the people involved. The other forum was never 'necessary', but at the time when it started the software on this forum was sh*t, which prompted a small group of frustrated Sydney guys (originally from this forum) to start the other forum in the first place. I still prefer the software on the other forum, but the software on this forum has improved a lot. Nearly all of the active members on this forum are also active on the other forum. There are a very small number of people who stopped using this forum when the other one was created, but most people (myself included) have been using both forums all along, which has annoyed the small number of people I just mentioned. That is why I think the other forum was never necessary, but I still really like both forums, and they both contain lots of great information. MIDN1T3 Now this may sound crazy, but now I feel like I'm missing out if I dont go on the other one to check stuff, see what other people are doing to their cars That's probably the main reason why so many people decided to try the other forum while continuing on this one too.

^ need not add to any of that. I've mentioned before that I'd prefer that the 2 forums unite, however that is very unlikely to happen. To be honest, it's a real shame given that the core members of the "other" forum were among the best "technical" contributors to this forum.

From experience just don't mention this forum on the other one. Personally, not living in Sydney, the other one did not offer me anything I felt like i was missing, and always got more responses to questions here no matter how technically based. I kept tabs on it for a while, but no longer do. Looking at the amount of "active" users I still don't think I was mising anything.

Perhaps one day we will unite. History (movies) has shown that when humans are under attack from an alien race we stop bickering over each other and put aside our minute differences to turn against the real threat. Seriously tho I thought the forum was upgraded to the Sydney based one lol but it was a coincidence this got upgraded same time. I also asked the exact same questions haha. Since this was already running I ceebs lurking on 2 forums; I mean there's the US one and International one to deal with too... I suggest if you got time why not try the other out and see if you like it. From my limited experience the other one seems more quiet than this one (which is already more quiet than forums like NS or SAU) but I rarely go on the other so I can't really comment. I will admit tho the software on the over forum is appealing. But this one just fine (now can post pictures with over 9000 kb!) if not better than the US one software-wise Extra big shame since our community is quiet small, this is like committing genocide? (whats the word for killing of your own kind?). I'll stop the global reference now...

It is true that the forums are run differently. On this one, I pretty much just host the software, and the content is owned by the members. The breakaway group seemed to think that I am a dictator. I probably am - regarding how the forum is hosted though this shouldn't matter to the content of the forum, which is what people come here for. People don't come here because the forum is hosted in a particular way! We try to never moderate posts here - we respect free speech. Most of the time there are no issues at all. We certainly have no issue in speaking about the other forum. From what I have heard from others, the other forum has experienced times of heavy moderation and I have heard complaints about this from multiple people. I guess that is something to consider when choose a primary forum to frequent. The other forum has a core of Sydney based members, so yes it probably has limited value for members living in other states. It is interesting to note that most members logging on to this forum are from NSW, so I suppose that the other forum isn't taking too much traffic away from this one. I don't really have an issue with the breakaway guys though I'm pretty sure that they still have an issue with me. I don't really mind. I'm not really active in the MR2 scene anyway so it doesn't impact me. This forum does get a lot more traffic than the other one. Just my rambling thoughts..... Seeya!
