Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running?

Finally getting close to firing up the beast after doing gen3 swap, the motor has been sitting for a couple of years, oil pump was removed and checked during this time.  Just wondering if anyone has any tips on ensuring oil will get to pressure as quickly as possible on first start up?  I was thinking of craking with spark plugs removed (no compression = easy cranking and minimal load on conrod/crank bearings) until it builds pressure, then firing it up?  Just weary of things being dry after long stand still.

Is there another way to "prime" the oil system or any other suggestions?

Cheers

On total rebuilds ppl usually fill the oil pump with grease so it will always have something to pull through. If you don't feel like pulling it definitely crank over till you get pressure.

Thanks, never heard of that one before.  Definitely don't want to pull oil pump off again (engine is now in the car).  It was running before it got pulled out of the half cut, so not a full rebuild etc.

You could even just crank it for a while with the EFI fuse removed, so it wont actually start but just to prime it a bit first.

Thanks, yeah thats what I meant but was wondering if there is another way, I thought I read Mandalay mention pumping the oil in some place into an oil gallery so its basically under pressure when you finish.  Might search again.

He posted that in my showroom thread. I would just remove the spark plugs and crank it.

Edit: No he didnt it was something else

isnt pulling out the EFI fuse and cranking achieving the same thing ??

+1 for priming. Although I've seen plenty done without it & have been fine. Nice precaution though.

Although I have never tried it myself, I've heard some people even fill the filter with oil before fitting it after an oil change, or with a new motor.

You would have to take your time filling it thru the middle hole until the whole filter was full the other side of the filter element, but because on sdubs the filter is mounted upside down, some would run out before you could get it on.
But if you don't mind a bit of a mess maybe it would cut the time for the pressure to come online.
