Stuka’s 1990 GT Turbo - Targa Tasmania Prep

Here is the latest edition to the stable! It was imported to TAS for hill climb and targa duties, I intend to use it for the same purpose along with some track work, regularity etc. This is a turnkey racer and pretty much exactly what I wanted, came at a bit of a steal too. The previous owner had the motor rebuilt with a few goodies and had the suspension rebuilt, rollcage welded in, rally computer/comms etc, pulls really well and is planted to the road. The targa series is moderately restrictive in regard to modifications.

The photos are from gumtree, I’ll post up some more photos soon along with the spec and plans for extracting a few more ponies from the motor.

    Pretty reliable race car.
That car has finished numerous tara tas events.
Did you get any free pace notes with it??

Looks good! Let's just hope the motor isn't in the same condition as yours when you bought it...

All the best with the car. Should be able to do some pretty neat things in that.

The car has done I think 4 targa TAS and 2 targa wrest point. I got some free pace notes for targa adelaide but not TAS! Terrific bloke that sold me the car, Im sure he will do me a deal!

the car is now log booked with cams and on special interest registration, took a few weeks to work through all the paper work. I have only driven it once since it has been registered and Im competing in the Hobart domain hill climb tomorrow! I'll take some photos while Im there and post them up soon.

I got through the hill climb and had some fun. The morning was warm and dry but it pissed down in the afternoon. There were a couple of big spills, including a minor one for a gt4. The car was flawless and glad to discover it has in fact an LSD! Im thinking its probably making 150 – 160 wkw, the tyres are a little narrow on the rear so I got the tail out a couple of times in the dry and more so in the wet but think I controlled it well with the throttle. Many people were familiar with this car at the event so it was good to hear stories about its exploits. I made some nice wheelies at the start line to keep the fans happy! Few photos below taken today.

Steve I’ll need to speak to you about suspension tweaks....

no more progress to report, I want to focus on improving the suspension. the car sits quite high so considering lowering an inch or so but Im reluctant to change the geometry or reduce suspension travel too much.

the local GT garage had a dyno day on sunday, made just over 160wkw and happy enough with that given the engine is pretty much stock. I reckon a dump pipe should free up flow and make more top end, makes a hell of a noise at full song as the exhaust is just a couple of hot dogs!

That is an impressive figure for 12psi, are there any other notable mods to the engine?
