Coilovers installed now car feels funny lol - rear end feels like its swaying around
So guys. i had the coilovers put in just now, on the way home i noticed the car sways a fair bit from side to side and doesnt handle as good as what i had it previously. the old suspension was lowered springs and they are pretty firm. i came home and tightened all the damper adjustments to full tight. (i noticed one of each side was softer than the others, cliking thing was wound about halfway, other two were full soft) havent driven it after but thought id ask here for any advice. i also fitted aftermarket strut braces and roll centre adjusters. swaybars are still stock item. whell alignment hasnt been done yet, thats the next on the list. also the stock rear strut brace has been removed. any reason i should be keeping it on as well ??? as ive seen many cars with them still on while running aftermarket ones at the same time. cheers

I'd be withholding judgement until you've given everything a chance to bed in and you've gotten that wheel alignment.

remember harder doesn't necessarily mean better and you might want to back off the damping on the shocks again before you drive it as "tightened right up" may close the valves and result in blown seals in your shocks... my advice would be set them to about half way, make sure each side is the same, get the alignment done... from someone really good!... and go from there. as for factory sways, they're there for a reason, I know you CAN remove them, but in general unless you know what you're doing and why then you're way better off leaving them in as you'll need to adjust a bunch of other stuff to make up for removing them. I got my coilovers and new sways in and the car didn't feel as good either, and was VERY tail happy, took it to get it aligned twice and saw no real improvement.. only just got it all fixed. And if you're adding any adjustment capacity the standard suspension doesn't have, point it out to the aligner so they know to take it into account. don't make massive drastic changed like closing off the valves in your shocks or removing swaybars before you've even got the alignment sorted or you'll probably end up breaking things, crashing, or making things worse.

purple5ive also the stock sway bars haven been removed. any reason i should be keeping them on as well??? cheers So the swaybars have or have not been removed? the swaybar job is to reduce that "side to side" movement, and I personally wouldn't substitute them for overly stiff springs and shocks.

Nope swaybars are still in there just stating they are the normal ones and not aftermarket. nothing was removed except for the old strut bars and the old suspension. New coilovers, roll centres adjusters and aftermarket strut braces were added. i should ammedn my post it should say strut brace not sway bar, my bad i only picked up the error now. i also ammended the post as i remebered checking the damper setting and finding two of the four were different (half tight) cant remeber which ones now though cheers

thats a relief... removing swaybars sounded drastic. anyways make sure when you get the alignment done they know about the roll adjusters and if theres any camber/KPI adjustment in the coilovers as theres not in the stock suspension so they wont be looking for it. and soften up your damping a bit before you blow your shock seals.

i had them from a while ago and put them in cause the suspension was being changed thinking they might help with the car being low and all. i tried to soften the dampers but the little clicker things just unscrew out from the top of the coilovers, any idea how to make them work again it has a small nut like contaption at the end. might have to use small pliers on it im guessing. hard to explain

Thanks Red - just having skim read that I bet the RCAs are at fault here. Besides, cars that are excessively lowered normally handle like crap anyway.
