What area of the engine do you want to mount the alternator? The MR2 or Celica location?

Guess he wants to put it into a Celica. If you cant find one just go to Toyota and buy a new one. Which BTW you will need a Celica Alternator also, different mounting ears,. Oh then you will need the idler tensioner , bracket and bolts. Oh then add the A/C stuff also if you need A/C. What looked like a good deal might cost you a bit unfortunately

should be easy enough to source the brackets 2nd hand. in fact i know mrskylighter has a set he no longer needs. his current celica AC comp will be fine. you also need to swap the crank pulley over to the celica version for the smaller dia inner section of the pulley to run the power steering pump. otherwise it will be over driven.

Current A/C will be ok but he needs all the other items. The celica crank pulley also is a 3+5 vee belt. Oh also the dipstick is different. In a way im familiar with all the differences as i have a combination of MR2 and Celica so as to add my SC

altho the mr2 dipstick and tube is different, is there a reason it cannot be retained? does it interfere with alt placement? i have a spare crank pulley, but he could also use the one off his 5sfe or whatever engine he removed to fit the mr2 motor. if it's an st202 jap import(not locally delivered st204 then it may have been a 3sge motor. in which case he should be able to transfer those brackets etc over. all this is conjecture tho until OP responds.

Yes the dipstick interferes having the alternator up top. Also its a bit harder to reach.

i have a 5sfe engine sitting at the workshop which came out of the celica. i tried to use its bracket and it didnt work the 3rd bolt at the bottom is off by a few cm so i cant bolt it in. i would of used the mr2 bracket but since the mr2 bracket is part of an engine mount and i had to change that engine mount so the engine bolts in the car. but thanks for the advise about the pully thats something i didnt think about. :)

ok. then your car is an st204(not 202) no 5sfe alt brackets don't work. for the dip stick you need to remove the brass sleeve in the block that the dipstick tube goes into, then fit the dipstick tube from the 5sfe (they have the same sump as gen2 3sgte so oil level reading will be fine) you can use the crank pulley from the 5sfe. you should be able to sourec the ALT brackets. i'll check what i have at home. can't recall if gen2/3 are different for the top ALT bracket. have you joined OZcelica?

i have a gen2 alt bracket, but not the tension bearing bracket, mrskylighter took that one. i also have some gen2 3sgte dipsticks and tubes from an st185. you can use the alt from the 5sfe celica, it's a lower amperage tho.
