crap uneven steering

hey guys, steering angle on full lock to d ryt is not as wide as my full lock to the left, basically i have more turning circle going to the left compared to d ryt, i cant even make a small roundabout without reversing out and going in again which annoys d **** out of me specially when thers a car behind grrrrrrr. it also feels like full lock to d left has way way more angle compared to  stock spec. im guessing d spline jumped a tooth maybe a couple? cheers

Sounds like your tie rod ends are misadjusted leaving the steering rack right of centre when the wheels are straight ahead.  In this case, if your steering wheel is straight when driving straight it's been moved to suit.

Any good alignment shop will be able to correct this.

yeah i just went to get an alignment, wheels and steering wheel are definitely straight, aniway wouldnt the tie rod end just affect toe settings? or if it were misadjusted wouldnt it have registered on d alignment sensors? but yeah sounds like a possible culprit, ill go back and discuss this with d alignment guy, maybe we can try and fiddle with the settings knowing this possibility in mind. cheers

Toe-in is the main parameter that the tie rod ends adjust, but they also need to be adjusted evenly left to right to maintain the correct straight ahead position of the rack.  The alignment shop may have assumed that your steering wheel was in the correct position and worked with that.

You can set your steering wheel correctly before taking it back to the shop.  Jack up the car and take the front wheels off so that you'll get full steering travel without the tyres fouling anything.  Turn the steering wheel lock to lock taking note of exactly how many turns, then turn the wheel half this amount from one lock.  This is the correct centre position for the wheel.  If it's not centred, take it off and refit it correctly.  Then to test, take note of the steering wheel position at both locks, it should be the same offset from centre but opposite direction side to side, ie. you should count the same amount of turns either way from centre.

Hope this makes some semblance of sense!!
