Alternative to AW11 ?

Hello,

so, i've been looking at the AW11 market in Australia and it turns out there are quite rare and pricey...

I still want an AW11 super bad but i might have to consider buying another car T_T

I'm looking for a light, responsive to the steering, fun, fast in the corners, not too expensive, manual RWD.  Of course I know the Hachi-roku is one car like that but they are even more expensive than the Adub's ^^

Things i don't need: power, room, storage

Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance

PS: i would like not to spend more than 4 grands, of course, less would be better

Well I can't suggest any RWD cars. If you don't mind front wheel drive I'd suggest an AE92 Corolla SX. I've had one and it's a great car for the hills.

Here's one that someone's swapped a 20v into if you don't mind someones project

There has been a bunch of cheap ones under $4000.
There was a nice red 20V powered AW11 that went for $3800, which was a bargain for the condition and the parts fitted.
Last year a mate of mine bought a white 20V powered AW11 for $1800 (it's a little rough, but was still good).
Dyl30 on here picked up a fender bender one stock AW11 for just over $1k and now has it clocking up the Km's in Newcastle.

There is currently one on ebay for ~$900

And another one on car sales for $3200

Plenty around if your ask or look in the right places

Probably an MX5 if you can't get AW11. Keep in mind $3000-$4000 AW11's always require some work.

a car thats like an AW11 but not an AW11. Easy....... Fiat X19

TBH if you really want an AW11 not much is gonna compare to it. but thats only if you want an AW11 because you want an AW11 for what it is. if you just want some light RWD car that you can say you have a sick drift car with than an AW11 is NOT the car for you

Plus two on an ae92/93 sx seca or hatch. No other daily driver I've owned compared to the seca sx I used to own for fuel economy and behind the wheel fun. I've seen a sx hatch with a few sensible mods cutting low 1:40's around Winton as well. Not too shabby for a Corolla.  There are a few aw11's on the market and most are under $4000 which is cheap for how much fun they are but don't think your bank ballance is in for an easy time. I paid $5000 for mine with rwc and 12 months reg but its still not as fit as I'd like.

I'm not sure about other states, but in Vic  it'll be a stretch finding a good MX-5 for that sort of money too. Unless you want the gamble of buying a pre '92 model and then have the possibility of the short-nose crank issue. They also hold their value fairly well, and you certainly get a bit more bang for you buck MR2 wise....if you can find one.

I doubt you will find a RWD, but as others have said there are some reasonably cheap aw11's going around at the moment.

But if you can't find anything, I highly recommend a celica ST162. Cheaper, slightly quicker in a straight line and put a whiteline rear sway bar in it and it handles like a dream, not far off my aw11. Slight understeer on throttle, and oversteer when you lift off :). Plus it has 4 seats and way more room for stuff.

    KE70 Corolla.
Build up a 4age in for it
    Have fun.
Eventually find a cheap AW11 roller
    Throw in built 4age in
Sell KE70 as a roller. (or put a stock engine in)

    Win.
