All Japanese Day - Presidents Report PLUS Photos (incl. new Toyota 86)
Thanks to everyone who made the All Japanese Day attendance by the Club such a great outing. It was incredible to see over 400 Japanese cars of such varying vintages all in one place, particularly as 99.99% of them were driven to the show.
As Roar Power has noted in his posting quite a few more people now know what an MR2 is, and it was particularly rewarding to see all three models represented by such good examples.
The whole atmosphere was different to those of some of the other more extravagant car shows, and I feel that this is really down to it being a family fun day where the owners of the cars are not charged substantial amounts to be the main attraction.
Allan and his team did a great job organising the event, and only asking for a gold coin donation as the entry fee shows what can be done when you have enthusiastic people that are not there with the intention of making a huge financial gain.
Where else could you get such a top day in the sun, with good company, a sausage sandwich and a can of Coke for $2.00 total (that's right!), and some very unusual cars to look at?
Seeing the new 86 up close and personal along side the S800, Toyota's first sports car, was a bonus, but I have to say IMHO that the 86 shape still can't beat the SW20 for looks (and this is from a true AW11 believer). It was also strange to see the dual engine badging which you can look at for yourself in the photos.
Allan said to me at the end of the show that they really appreciated the "MR2 boys" coming along in force, and I have to say that the pictures with the marquee, the signs, and the shiny cars made it all look like something you'd want to belong to.
So, as Falcon asked, where were you?
Again, the Run Manager and I really appreciated everyone's efforts in making it the huge success it was, and look forward to our next Run in July. Stay tuned.
