Hello fellow enthousiasts (AW11=love)

Hi,

I'm a 28yo frenchie planning to move to Australia in the near future (most likely close to a big city) and I would like to gather some information about the AW11. For the records, I have lived in New-Zealand for about two years and owned a supercharged AW11 which was my daily/touge driver. I loved it so much that i almost cant think of any other car to buy aha...

Anyways, a few questions:

- are they hard to find ( manual SC) ?
- what would be the range of price for an average SC one (since i like to drive a bit hard in the twisties, buying a mint one would be silly) ?
- is there an Aussie-only auctions website where i could look for them (NZ has trade-me which is brilliant, i only know of gumtree for Aus) ?
- im also very interested in getting feedback from someone who has owned an AW11 and an AE86. Im considering the AE86 because it might be almost as fun while being much more practical. So, if anyone has any opinion about that, im very keen to hear it ^^

Thanks in advance, cheers !

Was thinking you are up early but you are on NZ time. You dont have the same amount of roads and proximity here in Aus as you do in NZ. so it will be a bit of travel usually to get to the good bits.  As for finding them look on Carsales and ebay.com.au or try the MR2 forums. There are a few around but not heaps so you will find one it just depends on what level of specs and condition. Dont know whether its worth bringing one over if you have one there?

Hey Pete, thanks for the reply !

Well, i must not have used the correct tense form because im am not in NZ anymore (it's been a year since i left). I thought "I have been living..." would mean i still live there and "I have lived" mean i left but it looks like i was wrong aha... Please tell me what i should have said to make my situation clear (I really think it's important to be well understood)

Anyways, thanks for the websites, i checked on ebay but couldn't find any car...

I was in Auckland at the time and it's true that i didn't have to drive for too long before i could enjoy my favorite touge (about 30mn from downtown) but it was still a bit of a hassle, the closer the better ^^. Do you reckon i should reconsider moving close to a big city ? What kind of place would be a mid-size city with plenty of twisty roads around ?

I live on the gold coast qld, it take me abut 15 -20 mins to get to some good twistys and they can go right down the nsw into some even beter twistys, or take an hour to get to brissy, and there are some awsome roads up there that strech all way up to the sunshine coast too... I cnt speak for any other states though

I believe $5000 - $8000 is the average price for an AW11 SC. Cars in very good condition can sell for more.

I've owned an AE86 but not an AW11. I'd say the AE86 will be more practical in terms of space but the AW11 would be more practical in terms of visibility out of the car and ease of parking. An AW11 owner would know better than I.

You are using the correct tense. It was a simple misunderstanding. If you wanted to emphasise the tense you could say "I have lived, until recently..."

Over the last 7 years I have lived in Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. I think Adelaide has the best access to mountain roads by a large margin. See this if you need convincing: http://goo.gl/maps/JhGk. Adelaide also has a very strong culture for mountain/hills driving that I never found in the other cities I've lived in. I think it is mainly because of our close proximity to such great roads. There are several major tarmac rallies held in the hills here each year. Another reason to choose Adelaide is the significantly lower cost of living that we have here.

Thanks a bunch for all the information, especially regarding the nice areas and Adelaide !

It seems that MR2's are quite more expensive in Aus than in NZ though...

Cars in general in Australia will make you sick after seeing NZ prices.
