Small coolant leak, what exactly is damaged?

So I noticed I have this small coolant leak today. Just wanted to know ppls opinions on what exactly is damaged as making the leak? Im thinking/hoping that I just need a new gasket for this part or would it be leaking for some other reason
Here's a picture of where it's leaking you can see its a bit wet below the line where the 2 parts meet.

Car is a 92 gt-s

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Think the sealant has just deteriorated and caused a leak?

Yeah i think there is a black rubber ring that seals in there isnt there? But in saying that i recently only put the oring in and still leaked so i used a gasket sealer aswell and that fixed my problem

Think you will find there is a large  O Ring under there.  Need to clean both surfaces as bolts do not provide even clamping.  Do not  overtighten.   As with any cooling system this leak needs to be fixed PRONTO.

    Just an o-ring required.
Most people dont by a new o-ring when installing clips which there lays the problem as once its opened most often the o-ring will change shape

There is definitely an o-ring that is in that spot.  As soon as you pull it apart you'll see where it sits.

Do not just use sealant - it's dodgy.  Many people do it but just replace the two cent o-ring and then if you need additional stuff look at the sealant.

Mine also leaked from here and it was that it had been connected with sealant only and no o-ring.

Thanks for all the help everyone. What o ring is it exactly? So I know what to ask for at the shop?
If its the thermostat gasket my mechanic just gave me one but with just the picture I showed him he doesn't think that's what it is. But he isn't positive
