More dramas...

Hey all

After connecting the catch to my fuel lid it seems the cable is broken as I now can't open it from the outside.

I've got a quarter tank left don't want to drive anywhere. Any ideas of how to get it open?

Is it broken from the fuel cap side or under the dash?

If under the dash trace the cable back as far as you can and hope that you can get to where it is broken, then cut open and pull cable.

If on the fuel cap side, I can't remember how the set up is but from memory it latches into a flimsy piece of metal, you might be able to get a thin bent bit of wire in there to pull back the catch, if you do this you should put tape over the paint work on the edges so it doesn't get damaged.

Sorry all, forgot to mention it's for an sdub

The fuel cap latch is able to retract freely so i'm guessing it's the cable.
I'm not quite sure the cable runs under the dash, I was under the assumption it ran from near the front of the drivers seat, behind the back seats to the fuel lid latch.

If this isn't the case please let me know :)

Thats correct but have no idea how it can be changed with engine in. I changed mine while every was out as its in the quarter and around the filling pipe

Hmmm....sounds like quite the task. I don't even know where it's snapped. I tried having a look at the rear quarter by pulling the boot carpet out near the light but couldn't find anything :(

Some say a screwdriver works but there is a lip before the latch that you need to navigate around

This is all I could find in the way of a diagram that could give you an idea of the cable route.
If you removed the driver's seat you may be able to see where it goes through the bulkhead.

The cable runs behind the seats to the passenger side an into the 1/4 panel.
I would first cheek at the leaver to see if it has come off. Try pull on the cable and see if it opens

Would taking off the rear wheel and removing the inner guard allow me to gain access to the cable?

    No.

I havent had a door for many years, no longer have the cable, and dont even have the filler neck on the car, but i would be trying to go via the engine bay, were the fuel filler neck goes into the guard, theres the big rubber grommet/boot, wounder if you can pry it back a bit and reach into the catch?

Hmmm....possibly. I'll give it a shot and let you know. Either way it doesn't sound like an easy fix :(
