My turn.... EFI fuse keeps blowing - Fixed

Well its with great remorse that i have to come on here with a problem.
Grrr
The engine bay EFI fuse (15Amp) keeps blowing.
Everytime i replace it, the car will just about start and then it blows again.

Any bright ideas?
I had a good look around, i cant see any wires shorting in the engine bay.

Any chance at ALL you have played with the wires going to the fuse

This is the circuit , Beams but pretty much the same

Have you changed your fuel pump ?

Haven't touched any wiring, or the fuel pump.
The last thing i did was, check the ignition timing a few weeks back.

    Turn on acc, all good.
Turn to start, it cranks and fires up for less than a second and then fuse blows and it dies.

From the diagram i have...coming from 15EFI is
    - EFI Main relay
    - Circuit Opening Relay
    - Oxygen Sensor
    - ISC Valve
    - VSV
    - Fuel Pump Circuit...............

Fuel pump diagnosis can't be easy I imagine.
Do they often create a short when they fail?

Im sure thats the fuse that blows when a fuel pump draws too much current.
To eliminate the pump lift the gear lever bezel and find the connector for the fuel pump.

    It has this shape

    Disconnect it.

Now put another fuse in 15 amps. Turn the key to ingnition DO NOT START der :)
If it blows the pump is OK . Maybe the Relay and check it
If it doesnt blow the fuel pump is kernackered

Cool i will try that, fuel pump is a major component on that efi fuse.

I see the diagnostic connector has a FP terminal, that  is a direct feed to the pump.
Let me know if this makes sense, as an additional check?
Wire up the FP terminal directly to the main positive connector, with a inline fuse block (10amps to be safe, lower than the 15amp efi), with ignition fully off and no efi fuse.
If it pops has to be fuel pump, or at least the direct wires to fuel pump.

Aside...Does the australian delivered 3s-ge (non turbo) come with fuel pump relay and fuel pump resistor?

Ok, I had my few days away from this problem.
Didn't want to go near it over the weekend.

Did a quick check this morning...
With fuel pump relay unplugged, I have zero resistance
between Fp diagnostic pin and chassis.
So it does indeed look like you were right Mandalay.

Ill do the check at the fuel pump connector to rule out wiring.

Thing is, I could fix anything else along that circuit, except a fuel pump replacement.
Looking at the procedure it doesn't sound like something I going to attempt myself without a hoist.

Anyone done it themselves with just jackstands?

At least i get to find out what pump I'm running,
for all I know it might be original OEM NA pump.

Ive dropped my fuel tank a few times with just ramps and jack stands. Its not as bad as some make out.

Ive got my tank out so will measure the height so you know the minimum height you will need to be able to get it.

My jack and stands top out at about 400mm i think :D
How long did it take the first time?
    Need to remove,
all covers, engine heat shield, disconnect wiring, move coolant & a/c lines, unbolt brackets, drain tank, disconnect fuel lines and filler tube, then wrestle the thing out.
Did i miss anything? How heavy is it? Need 2 people?

    2 people are better.
Have proper brake line spanners or you will twist the fuel line.

If it has never been done to the car get ready for a hard time as most the bolts will not budge.

The rubber filler hose will be almost soild

If you have to replace the pump and aren't going to use oem. Do yourself a favour and don't get a walbro (whinebro). Annoying noisy little fu**ers that they are. If you are going to have a crack at this over the weekend and you need a hand, let me know. Sounds like a bit of fun.
