Coolant Temp Sensor Question

Hey Guys, got the car back from the mechanic and shes still overheating and spraying coolant. Thermo fans arent coming on so I want to disconnect the Coolant Temp Sensor off the Radiator. For anyone who has done this before, do you get at it from above or below?

what was done to fix the issue at the mechanics?

if thermo fans aren't coming on it may suggest that the thermostat isn't opening (new ones can be sticky, you need to test them in hotwater first to get the first "crack" done) and hence coolant at the engine is overheating whilst the coolant in the rad isn't getting hot enough to engage fans.

alt the sensor is busted or faulty wiring.

What did the mechanic say ?

Why would he give it back and not solve the issue ?

you may be royally screwed even if you get the fans to work, as i doubt the fans not working is the cause for the overheating.

as i don't have my mr2 anymore i can't check how to get the temp sensor unplugged. it's normally at the bottom on rads, you may just need to remove the under panels.

I used to be able to reach the sensor plug by laying on the ground and sticking one arm up under the radiator past the covers :)
Give it a shot. Make sure the rad isn't hot though.

if it was overheating when your moving then it's probably not just the fans.... they'll only help when your stuck in traffic.

if it's overheating with or without fans when driving along there's another problem... maybe thermostat... maybe something else.

Only happened when the car was stopped after a run down the highway. Disconnected the coolant sensor, fans on constantly and it was fine. Only problem is that Toyota don't make these sensors any more so I have to use aftermarket.

Thats very weird, id.be amazed if there isnt a newer part which is essentially the same.

The original part.number probably just got superceded and the parts guy is a douche
