E153 sw20/v6 gearset conversion. issues..

I have mixed the gears from the V6 and the 3SGTE to create a closer ratio box as other people have done in the past.
The problem Im having is issues with engagement to 5th and reverse. 5th is tight but reverse simply jumps out the second you begin to release the clutch. The box is now out of the car again and dismantled with the engagement issue a little clearer after some measurements
Has anyone come across this before and do they have a solution?

Cheers

Sorry for not replying earlier. The problem was caused by mixing the MR2 and Camry reverse gear cluster. You must use one or the other. I used the MR2 unit.
Otherwise its OK but will need to run the car to confirm it will be 100% operational. That is another story..

We really should get a E153 mix n match thread going. I've found a lot of different ratios in the E53/E153 boxes from Camry, SW20 and Celica versions.

There is a fair amount of info on the conversion but to keep it short, you need a v6 camry gearbox of one from a RAV 4. The RAV is a better option as it has more ratios to play with and you can pick up the 4.5 final drive if your lucky. Great for short circuit, drags or hill climbs.
You need to use either the complete reverse gearset package not part of one and part of another. They will not work with mixing the gearsets.
I have someone who can assemble in Sydney metro once removed.
I will not know the difference between the two until I take the car back out but it really is a track orientated conversion as your lowering your final drive effecting cruising and fuel economy.
