Best gearbox/LSD oil for Gen3 turbo SW20?

Hi all,
apologies if this has been covered already, but I did a search and couldn't find anything...
I just want to replace the gearbox/LSD oil in my S-Dub, and was wondering what everyone uses/recommends..?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have some months ago replaced my LSD gear oil with REDLINE MT-90.  I have to say the gear changes fill much better than before, old oil was a shell synthetic.

Redline MT90 killed a fresh transmission of mine, seriously don't recommend it. I actually use the Caltex branded 75/90 GL4 Easyshift (which is Toyotas recommended spec & used in some Toyotas apparently). Works perfectly. I'd stay away from GL4/5 transmission oils. Everytime I search the shelves, never find a 75/90 GL4 from Penrite.

    Good to know!
I quite like Penrite oils, so would use one of those as long as it's good. Otherwise I might see if I can get my hands on the Caltex stuff.
    How much will I need?

If you have the factory viscous LSD, the LSD operation is not influenced by the oil, so its not as critical.

In my previous SW20, I had a plate LSD and went through a few redline oils all of which caused the LSD plates to chatter in one way or another.

I ended up using a synthetic Mobil oil, sorry cant recall the grade/type, but it solved the LSD chatter and the shifts were still great.  It was what Tony Flood recommended at the time.

    Cheers

You can buy it direct from caltex in I think welshpool. I bought a 20l drum of it for approx $180, but they should do the smaller containers, of which you will need 2.

I got the Penrite gearbox oil. You have to make sure you get the right one with Penrite, as there are 2 types that appear the same, but are not. I had to get 2 x 2L bottle. But I'd say the gearbox uses around 2.5l or so. The BGB has the exact volume required.
