Speedo & air con problem 3sgte swap.

Speedo & air con problem 3sgte swap.

After performing a very sucessfull 3sgte engine swap from a 1994 GTS import, into a 1998 Australian delivered SW20R vehicle, All went surprising well with no problems what so ever.  The entire transplant was made easy as I had the full 1994 GTS vehicle at hand that only had front end damage yet had been economically written off.  Along with the tranfer of the doner 3sgte engine I also swap the entire engine, boot harness which was as simple as unpluging the old harness which unclipped from the passenger side kick panel and carried through the engine bay, boot to the ECU & tail lights etc.

Once everything had been reconnected, electrical, mechanical etc, it was time to give it a crank and what do you know, it started and idled just as it use to only in its new body.  The problem I have ran into is some very frustration as now for some unknown reason I have no speedo working and also my air conditioner does not work.  Like I said frustrating because the air con in the 1998 was perfect prior the engine / harness swap and yet the only thing that is different is the harness, but it uses the same harness plug connection and same air con compressor.  When you press the air con button the air con light comes on but there seem to be no power to the relay that then sends it to the air con compressor.  I have changed the air compressor just to make sure which I know works 100% ok as stated was working perfectly before.  I have checked all electrical connection and all seem to be connect right.  I have also checked if power is at the compressor harness plug, but it shows no signal of power when the air con button is pressed.  I would now assume that the issue is some where between the air con button and the relay... not sure.   I have checked all fuses but I am unable to locate the air con relay - which may be the problem.  Please help anyone.

Speedo problem:
Again, same as above, everything now works on the instrument cluster apart from the speedometer.  I have tried to change the non-turbo speedo instrustment cluster over with the turbo cluster but the crash pad harness is some what different and looks to be a huge job If I was to do so.  So using the non-turbo speedo instrustment cluster in its original body, I have tried changing the electronic speedo sensor as both models are late models with the electronic sender unit not cable driven.  Has anyone experience this problem?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Have you regassed the ac? There is a pressure switch on the hard line which will stop the ac mag clutch kicking in if there is no gas.

Hi there, thanks for you reply.

The system was immediatelly regassed after engine swap, no leakes were detected and pressure was held normally.
    thanks

I had a similar problem, if it is the same issue it was a pain in the arse to fix.
The engine ecu for whatever reason (no error codes) was not allowing the A/C to turn on, therefore not sending the control signal
    to the A/C amp module.
Assuming the A/C system is healthy, no leaks, fan and sensors all good...
Then first check is ground the control wire on the A/C relay (just behind the glovebox), relay will turn on and A/C will fire up.
Does it now cool and run properly?
You can also pull the ACT pin either from the engine ecu or A/C amp, but the A/C relay is easier.

(Dont know about the speedo issue both models are electric so should be fully compatible.)

Sorry to interject above replies are not accurate. Its not mechanical , its electrical

The JDM body harness was changed compared to the Aussie model. Been thru this.

JDM cars carry several wires to the Kick panel,

    Speedo,
    Taco
    A/C
    A/C amp
    Fuel pump

The Aussie models tee those wires at the fire wall then run those wires to the center console.
Also the A/C amp is different so wires might not line up.
If you have the smashed car still use the dash wiring and you should be ok, or else you might have to do the same as i did and get a very good auto electrician to find the wires as 3 of them are red and there are a **** load of red wires in the body harness
