New wheels or more likley 'New problems' :)

Hi all, I've just bought some piaa Nakajima racing wheels the stats are;

All tyres are federal 595 rsr's

Fronts 17x8 et 38 with 235/45/17 on at the moment (definitely need to change tyres :))

Rears 17x9 et 35 with 255/40/17 on them (slight rub on hard cornering so I'll need to roll the guards a little)

The wheel calculators say that I'll have 2.65mm from possibly touching the suspension up front so my question is... Is that enough clearance, or do I need a spacer? If so what size would you recommend? Also what size tyre would be best?

Fronts you would be best with a 215/40 Tyre
    Rears would be fine.

If you are using/plan to use coilovers at any time you will need a 3-5mm spacer up front to clear the struts.

Thanks chase, at the moment I just have standard struts (lowered ~2 inch though) do you think 2.65mm will be enough clearance? I've got no plans for coil overs in the near future though :)

    I have Enkei Racing S wheels, 17x8 (F) and 17x9 (R) +35 offset all round
I also have Federal 595 RS-Rs all corners
fronts are 215/40/17 and fit perfectly
rears are 235/40/17 and required the guards to be rolled as they scrubbed like hell without.
255 IMO is too wide for the RS-Rs as the 235s are PERFECTLY flush with the rim.

Nice looking wheels there MRTurbo, I've already test fitted the rears and driven on them for a while. They only slightly scrubbed on some really hard corners and even then it was only the passanger side that I could get to rub :) I think I've got some pretty hard spring rates lol

The 2.65mm clearance to the strut is plenty. I think there's a bout 1mm clearance on mine lol.

That looks like quite good fitment, I hope mine will sit similar to that. Thanks for the input everyone I'm going to go with 215/40r17 for front and I'll roll the rears a bit for the 255/40r17 that are fitted :)

Thanks :) What does everyone think of rs-r's? I've heard they are quite grippy and very quiet, have many people here used them?

Well after using them for a few weeks i think they have totally transformed the car. The back end sticks like glue no matter how much i give it and the front end steers and grip with total confidence. They are quiet and they also ride well on less than perfect roads. In the wet you still need to take care and the sidewalls might be a tad on the soft side but in the dry nothing comes close other than a proper semi.

They sound good :) can't wait to get them fitted and try them out. I'll post some pictures of the wheels/car once they're on and clean...

^ they are damn good street tyres, you wont regret ever getting them. I did a lot of research on them beforehand and they're everything that I expected them to be (and more). Time will tell how they wear with their 140 treadwear, but I don't care as I only use my MR2 on weekends (mainly) and if get 2 years out of them I'll be laughing. Best thing about these is they don't need ANY heat/warming up at all to stick like glue so they are perfect for street driving compared to some others.
