New WA Member with a ZZW30 Saying Hello

Hello Forum,
Names Yang, and have recently acquired a ZZW30 so i thought i'd join myself up to the forums.
Little bit about the car:
  • 2000 JDM 5-Speed Manual ZZW30 in Yellow
  • Just under 65000 KM
  • Mysterious past as owner had no paper work for anything
  • Turboed at some point with relevant supporting mods inc. Motec ECU, Water to Air Intercooler, Headers -> Exhaust, maybe others not sure
Have owned it less than a month but already have a story to tell...however it's long so DOT POINTS
  • Bought car for a pretty awesome price
  • Sent to WTFauto for a tune because the Motec wasn't tuned properly under 2k RPM
  • While there a list of problems was discovered, very sad sad face
  • New clutch installed, water to air system fixed, tuned and dynoed at 160hp atw @ 7psi
  • Have car back now, VERY HAPPY FACE, have a list of stuff that needs fixing in my room which can be done incrementally.

Rest can be found here, this is to save load time and streamlines later updates. Enjoy =) http://photobucket.com/JD...R2?albumview=slideshow

    Welcome fellow ZZW30 owner :)

With those mods (which are very similar to mine.. Beside the manual - I have SMT) you should be getting a lot higher power figure..
I'm on 151kw-202hp @ the wheels.. I'm only pn 7psi and stock internals with a piggy-back ecu, due to the SMT..

According to Tristan / WTFauto the intercooler for the water to air setup is in the worst place you can put a intercooler, basically 0 heat dissipation with it breathing exhaust gases at the best....worse theres no fan attached either so it's basically doing nothing lol. I'll upload my graph once i get into the office tomorrow to use the scanner.

Also the intake manifold and exhaust manifold are pretty messed up, looks like ebay or worse quality stuff. unsure the effect from the exhaust manifold on hp, but i assume the intake manifold would hamper the figures a bit. Once my cash reserves are replenished i've got about 5 major things to get through:

    Coilies (Tops are rooted)
Softtop repair (duct tape/adhesive till i source a replacement from USA or something)
    Intake Manifold
    Exhaust Manifold
Intercooler fix (either adding a thermofan to make it better, or redo system so the cooler is at the front which according to Tristan is just fricken Ace but much more $$$)

Yes will get photos soon, might go give it a wash sometime this week.
Edit: Also what turbo are you running? All I know is that i have a Garrett....which means nothing lol, might message Tristan to see if he had a chance to look.

I was looking at this car and called the owner a couple of times. Sorry to hear about the problems but at least it was a good price to start with. I think there was an ebay add for a soft top in Aus recently. Or I may be able to help you out with one.
I thought the intercooler was similar setup to DOu,s?

I dont think he would put the cooler at the front... You would have about 3 weeks of turbo lag before it took off! ahahha
I'm pretty sure he ment the heat exchanger at the front.. May have been installed on the side air vent atm.

    Yeah I'm running a Garrett GT28r..

What intake manifold are you talking about.. would love to see pics of that too..

@sweet Yeah i went in the morning, and snapped it up. Definitely happy with the price, Tristan told me a equivalent setup from scratch would be insanely high. The fixes are more because initially a crap quality component was put in or never bothered changing from stock to handle the boost. So i'll just slowly add quality components till i know its a helluva car. Very happy with the car dispite the fixes, can flick this thing around like it's nothing. If you could help me with a soft top fix/replacement that be mint

@DO I asked him that too, no he means the water cooler/intercooler/the thing that looks like a miniature air to air intercooler. I asked him about the lag and he mentions that because its the water thats being cycled from the front of the car to the rear and not the air itself, you wouldn't get any lag difference. He had a similar setup in his demo wtf sw20 and said once he put it at the front it was a amazing difference. Right now it's mounted to the rear of the car, about a 5-8cm opening where that black grill is at the rear. It has a metal duct facing the boot openings topside but those are blocked by a black sheet, unsure if thats stock, so like i said 0 ventilation. I'll take pictures it's quite sad haha

The intake manifold, he mentioned it has been slightly warped. I'm assuming after the throttle and before the engine where it splits off into the four combustion chambers.

The intake manifold is plastic... so dunno about the warping...

Yeah it would be the heat exchanger in the front, barrel in the back - like mine
I went from 70c intake temps to 40c ish - huge difference!!

Plastic? Hmm interesting i'll pop it open tonight and take some photos/have a look.

Did you facepalm like I did at the 4x100 studs lol. That said though i quite enjoy the stock MRS rims so will most likely he keeping them. Overall love the car, we got a midvale race sesh in mid may, very looking forward to putting this thing through the paces. I wish to experience this snap oversteer phenomenon haha

Also...  clean your MAF sensor... reset the ecu... then take it for a hard drive!!  Will feel 100x better!
