Gruntbox

Has anyone heard much about these or even tried them? I tried getting in contact with the maker of them but havent heard back. From what I can gather they should work on any AFM 4agze and are supposed to increase low down performance quite a bit without changing out your ECU. It has its own website, gruntbox.com. Any opinions?

Just realised this should have been in the Electrical/Ignition forum...

The Grunt boxes are required, more or less, here in the US when installing a large crank pulley, as our 4agze ecus create an issue at low rpm, about 3.5k, and create a bit of a lean out situation. That supposedly doesn't occur with the jdm ecus, at least from all my querying about it. So, if you don't seem to have the issue, don't worry about it, and consider yourself fortunate not to have a US ecu, lol.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Ah ok, I thought all the ECU's were the same except for the MAP sensor cars which mine isnt. I'm running a bigger pulley and I find the car a little sluggish at least till it hits 3k but then again I dont really have another adub to compare it with.

Well after doing some reading and emailing with Rob, one of the gruntbox makers, it seems the JDM ecu's, except ones from 89, do suffer from the leanout issue. I cant find much discussion about it in Australia so I'm wondering if it's worth a try or not. $145 isnt too much to pay for something that is supposed to make a very noticeable difference.

I wouldn't necessarily take Robb's word as gospel if I were you. No offense to Robb, but I've read all of the threads that he has partaken in, in regards to this issue, and none of those even came close to really studying the issue. It was almost all heresay.

I've discussed this issue with the guys on Toymods, and not a single one of them claim to have the problem, and some of those guys are pretty knowledgeable. I'd tend to take the word of guys who have been using this stuff for a long period of time, before that of someone who has not even experimented with one personally. Again, no offense to Robb, lol. If I recall correctly, there was even one guy who took part in one of the main US threads regarding this issue, who claimed to have used a jdm ecu without any issues at all, but nobody would listen to him.

But hey, give it a shot. It would be interesting to see how it works out.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!
