Boost Leak?
Hey all,
Was driving home the other day and was taking off at the lights and just as I was starting to boost had to put the clutch & brakes on and heard what sounded like a hose pop off.
After that the car wasn't boosting consistently, sometimes full boost but mostly around the 6psi mark, but was also spooling a lot slower than normal.
Just checked for boost leaks yesterday with my air compressor, found a large leak after the hot pipe from a faulty clamp, and also tiny leaks around the BOV gaskets which I replaced. Just got it all back together and took it for a spin, boosts consistently now and getting a max of about 9psi which is the same as b4.
However it's still taking awhile to spool up, it feels a bit restricted, like 4 or 5 seconds to reach 9psi in 3rd, previously it would almost instantly hit boost max in like 1 or 2 seconds....any ideas as to why it would spool slower now? Could the turbo fans be bent or something?
I just tried disconnecting the TVIS to see whether it was stuck closed, but after disconnecting the pipe to the actuator, I did not notice a difference at all?!
I thought that if TVIS was disconnected/removed, idles are rougher, oil pressure is low, maybe stalling etc, but even at idle it wasn't any different than before?
Also, power wasn't much affected so I'm guessing it wasn't stuck closed previously.
I looked at all the vacuum lines under the intake to the TVIS & VSV but all looks like it's going to the right spots. I have a Mines ECU, could that have disabled TVIS?
It's a Gen 2 Turbo btw, thanks for your help guys!
