There's nothing wrong with a trunk mount if you're willing to lose the boot & cut 2 holes. You'll probabably be more open to trouble from the boys in blue (in VIC at least). Trunk mounts REALLY get the job done & can be put together rather cheaply. You won't be partially blocking your radiator either.

Yes its a lot of dicking around for a boot mount. You do realise I was referring to boot mount W2A rather than A2A? In regard to the front radiator, I still have room for a pancake fan in front of the IC if I notice any overheating problems. Again, I will consider this when I finalise the complete setup.

I didn't realise you were talking about trunk mount w2a :) Anyway, you should consider trunk mount A2A, it's simpler & cheaper with proven results Anyway, good luck!

Still deciding on W2A or trunk mount. Getting a few W2A costs from some locals fabricators before I decide.

While works on the car progress at IDB, I decided the ebay cooler could look a little prettier. I had the welds smoothed out and the results polished. The IC went from looking like this…..

………to this

Very happy with the result. Only problem is I’ll have to keep it polished!

Not much of an update to report on progress. Some of you on here already know the situation. Everything was going to plan until the rocker cover was removed revealing a mockery of a job the previous engine builder had made with only 13,000km travelled on the rebuilt engine.

The stock cams were removed to be replaced with 268 degree cams. On removal, it was discovered the cams and caps were scored due to sand remnants left over the from the bead blast process on the head from the original rebuild. This was very disappointing for me and messed up my plans completely. I needed this engine to be right given the power it would be producing. I wanted complete peace of mind.

As a precaution, the sump and oil pump were removed to examine if there was further damage. The crankshaft and a couple of the bearings were also scored. At this stage I figured that a considerable sum would have to be spent on labour to rectify these issues so I decided to stroke the motor.

With this in mind, the engine was taken apart and further scoring damage to the bores and pistons was discovered. The builder really made a poo poo of things. I then decided to put in oversized valves and therefore the head was sent to the machinest. The machinest discovered the valve guides had been pushed up into the head to improve gas flow. However, they were pushed up too far and had smashed the seals, this was confirmed by the carbon build up elsewhere.

The photos below speak for themselves. Luckily Ian at IDB did the right thing and diligently brought the scoring issue to my attention before proceeding to do anything further. Based on the amount of carbon build up and this motor potentially making 250rwkw, the engine would have not lasted long in that state.

So beware, only bring your car to a reputable mechanic you can trust. Trying to save yourself money in the long run always ends up costing you more. Vinnny and now I can vouch for that....
