any time mate, its the least I can do for all your advice over the last 18 months, you have been a great help quote: Originally posted by robk

lol you have to have patience with this stuff. i can guarantee you will run in to further issues before its done! jay - thanks for the analysis, this is the feeback I need! the tuner backed off as the boost wouldn't stabilise, it kept rising so he was concerned about cylinder temps. it seems this is probably caused by a restriction, either the housing, wastegate or wastegate plumb back into exhaust. i always thought the plumb back was too close to the turbo. im going to boost it over the weekend on spring pressure only to see if there is any boost creep. this should confirm if the restriction is wastegate related. can you elaborate on why you think the torque curve is all over the shop? more dyno time yesterday as I wanted him to smooth out the power curve and reduce AFR. he found a bit more in the top end but the AFR is close to 12:1, the torque curve is pretty jumpy and overall I dont think there has been much improvement

jay maybe u should give up your job and apply to be a rocket scientist quote: Originally posted by MR2QIK
Congrats on getting it running (good start) but I honestly think it's far from perfect. Looks very messy to me. My analysis below:
- 244rwkw @ 23-22psi isn't right - It's running a bit on the lean side (approx 11.8:1 opposed to a more safe/conservative 11.5:1) - RPM suggests they backed off well before 7000rpm (hard to tell off "derived" but judging by speed it's about 6000-6200rpm) - Torque graph is all over the shop
Looks like it might be having some small ignition breakup & I dare say the ignition map needs some work. Any idea why they backed off well before 7000rpm? It's promising that it's still building power when they let off, but that's too much boost in my opinion. Would perfect the boost controller setup (doesn't seem to be any problem though), then look at ignition timing & the spark plugs (gap?), then cam timing if necessary. My estimate is you'll get it to around 250-260rwkw @ 7000pm (suggest rev limit of 7500 though) on 20psi with it setup correctly.

never really got to the bottom of the inlet noise. I narrowed it down to the throttle body by using a stethoscope, so I removed it from the inlet manifold and replaced the gaskets etc, didnt make an ounce of difference.
as the frequency of the sound changes depending on vacuum or pressure, Im thinking its the charge whistling by an obstruction or maybe the shaft in the throttle body. will just have to live with it but there certainly is no leak.

Apart from the dip in the power curve (do you know what that is caused by?) and the corresponding dip in the torque curve, there is nothing wrong with those new graphs. They are certainly an improvement over the originals too. The AFR curve is just right, and the peak power figure is very respectable!

not sure what the dip was caused by, havent spoken to the tuner properly about this. maybe ignition?? otherwise yeah it doesn't look so bad

thanks, I'll hopefully have it fitted along with seat and harnesses over the weekend.
i got to know this awwsome fabricator in hobart, he does really choice work and it was cheap as chips. I'll PM you the cost. The CD storage box has to be removed to accomodate this. If you look at the version done by EMS for example, the bar clears the box but your harness the strap is slanting above the horizontal, this is a big no no. the harness straps should be horizontal or no greater than 20 degrees below the horizontal.

well I decided to get a screamer pipe fitted and swapped the haltech boost controller with a manual boost controller that those in the drifting scene have been raving on about here in Hobart. made 286 rwkw at 21 pound of boost. the tune is nice and safe with AFR around 11,5 throughout. 18 pound of boost at 3,500RPM
