Wings Over Illawarra - Sunday 6th May 2012
The MR2 Owners Club NSW Branch has been invited to have cars take part in displays at Wings Over Illawarra, the big air show at the Illawarra Airport (near Dapto, south of Wollongong) on Sunday, May 6. Already half a dozen members have said they are interested; how about joining in?
This is the 12th annual show, and it looks like a great day, with a huge attendance. There will be flying and static displays of historic planes of all shapes and sizes; sport aircraft; the RAAF Roulettes team and Hercules planes; RAN helicopters including the Squirrel demonstration flying pair; historic fighter planes from Temora Aviation Museum including a Meteor, Wirraway and Hudson; lots of food stalls and children's entertainment.
Other attractions are vintage and sports car and bike clubs, historic military vehicles and farm machinery. We plan to have our club join others in putting our cars on display in a special area during the day.
Main things to know is that car club groups must arrive by 8.30am and gather in a designated spot near the airfield, before being led in convoy to our display area on the airfield. They ask that we stay around until about 3.30pm. Entry to the show is $5 a head for those taking part in the display. You can still turn up any time and not join the display group; then you pay the general entry of $25 a head instead.
There's a chance we can join other car clubs in a slow driving display in the car arena, with commentary over the PA, so this could be a very good promotion for the club.
You don't need to commit to the day now, but let us know straight away if you are interested so we can inform the organisers of the numbers.
