Digital Boost gauges?
So I've been looking around for a decent boost gauge for a while, and was going to go for the Electronic Omori 45 mm like everyone else does, for the stock location. However, the thing I don't like about the Omori is that its not easily dimmable (I really cbf making a dimmer for it) and doesn't have a peak hold feature (boost spikes) or a warning alarm for different conditions (eg. overboost). I think these things are important because I'd rather keep my eyes on the road when I'm going WOT, not watching the dashboard, which makes most boost gauges useless without peak hold indication. Found this one and it seems like its a no frills industrial looking guage that'll do what I want: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200331038103&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en#ht_1704wt_1393 Anyone used one like the above before? are they reliable? Cheers

Yeah I've seen those EMS ones before but I'd rather leave my instrument cluster unmodified and I don't think it looks right with the rest being analogue, just my preference.

Yeah I agree those EMSpowered digital gauges do look a bit out of place among the analogue gauges. Apart from that they are quite a nice solution.

They look good too and looks like they feature peak hold as well. Good prices too. Decisions decisions

yeh i was checking them out at one point, saw a guy on the american forums with 3 of them and they look really good. What i like most is that generally with digital gauges you only have the number readout which i really hate. These provide a number plus a analogue style bar graph too. Much easier to read on the fly for things like boost. If only they made a 45mm odd size, then you could mount it in the cluster too haha. Also the senders are pretty cheap!

So I bought the Auber 80s old school looking one. Probably going to mount it in the DIN box, below the headunit :p Since its got an output for an alarm/buzzer, I'm going to wire one in, then use that as my "boost/fuel cut" (i.e. rip foot off accelerator), at a value I decide.

Update: I spent 7 hours yesterday (yay for Monday off work) installing my new boost gauge. I mounted the MAP sensor on the little bracket that holds the diagnostics port, near the factory 'turbo pressure sensor'. The MAP sensor is 'teed' off the stock vac hose that goes into the 'turbo pressure sensor'. I ran the 3 wires down the passenger side of the car, through the big grommet there then behind the carpet and down the centre along near the gearshift cables. I just soldered/spliced into the radio harness for switched +12V and used the ground the same as for the radio. Dimmer wiring was a piece of cake - just cut the green looking wire off the cigarette lighter bulb socket and used that. The gauge was mounted just below in headunit in the empty DIN slot and I just drilled a 10mm hole to feed the wires in the back. The unit was a bit technical to configure as it reads absolute atmosphere pressure default so I had to set it up to -14.7 psi so it'll read 0.0 psi when engine is off. Also had to set the resolution too, which I got wrong the first time and went for a drive and was showing part throttle as 26+ psi???! ended just having to configure it again and it was all good. Very happy with the response of the MAP sensor install, seems like there is no delay at all with the vacuum readings or boost. Just a quick squirt in 2nd saw about 11-12 psi last night, just factory boost TVSV. It also has a great little function to save the MAX (peak) boost reading and you can recall this at any time with the button and also reset. Later on I will wire in a piezoelectric beeper to the alarm output for 'overboost' warning, once I eliminate factory fuel cut. Pics to come.

Auber 3 Bar MAP sensor installed Gauge installed Hit 12 psi on a test run in 2nd gear only, notice the really bright blue light to indicate MAX (boost) recall mode. I'm very happy with this units performance so far! although it might not be everyone's cup of tea :D
