Yeah the NVH of the 2 is terrible compared to new cars. Having Kirk inserts and a 3.35" exaust doesnt help tho :p
best thing about the 2 its paid off and I still like the turbo shove in the back :)

yeah i love when it comes on boost, i guess a turboed 86 will be a different ball game again. im waiting for it to come to my local toyota showroom to go have a look. no intention of getting it however, maybe in another 5-6 years when the used car prices drop. cheers

According to the sales guy at Toyota, depreciation on the 86 will be very minimal due to the low volume. He reckons that a manual GTS will still be almost 30k second hand in 2-3 years and I agree.

muahahah winning.. im really glad you liked the auto GTS. i knew the auto would be fantastic.. do you really think they would spend 4 years on a car and release it with a substandard transmission ?

wonder if the auto box will suffer the same fate as the alfa selespeed gearbox.. i must say i do love the selespeed (when it works properly) but im guessing the 86 will respond faster to gear changes going by your quick report.

It apparently changes gears in 0.2 sec. I've driven plenty of autos in the past and none of them compare to this one. It really took me by surprise. really like that shifter is 'gated' too, very refined in its action. Leave it in 'D' for cruising/traffic or use the manual paddles in the hills - can't go wrong. Auto GTS at back, manual GT front LEDs :)

it is the same box used in the ISF minus 2 ratios. and it has been programmed to be as fast as a DSG.. as you know. toyota does not offfer a DSG solution nor does subaru yet. so developing on what they have.. they chose the best auto tranny they make. the subaru autos are horrid. even the 5 speed paddleshifter in the forester S they did the best they could possibly do.

Well I can see where the extra cost comes in then. It IS good because the torque converter locks up via a clutch in 2nd to 6th gear in manual mode. Unlike most Toyotas which usually lock only in O/D (4th or 5th) >70 km/h to save fuel etc.

Driving the Euro with paddles its boring. Stick to D and thats it. Only use the paddles to down shift. Manual will always feel nice. Even tho dearer the autos will definitely depreciate more than the manual

driving any FWD econobox like an automatic accord euro will always be boring. driving an auto aurion is rubbish and you dont use the paddles either. but in a sports car. with a good transmission that does what you ask of it. it will be good. lots of sports cars are auto these days.

Took at look at the 86 today. Not sure if I like or hate it yet still undecided. However disappointed with many dealers actions. Called a dealer to find out if they had a GTS manual and they say the only way I can see one is I put a deposit down and wait 6 months. What a joke!! Wanted me to sign the dotted line before I even seen the car in person or gotten to the joint yet. Another dealer I called, told me they had a manual GTS demo available and I can come in anytime in the day to take a look. I rock up, no GTS manual and its at least a 2 hour wait on just the GT, so I just left. Totally disappointed by the dealers actions today. Don't trust them, don't believe a word they say. On another note, I saw the delivery of a GTS 86 auto to a customer as I left annoyed and angry. And decided to take a look at it. Took a few pics. Had a family of 4 (parents and 2 kids) walk into the dealer and my MR2 was parked next to it. Their little girl around 8 said she liked my car. Gave me a big smile.

Due to owning a SW20, the 86's small size doesn't really shock me too much. From the pics the height seems similar to the SW20. How about length-wise, mr_mi6?
