The FT86 is a joint collaboration between Subaru and Toyota from the beginning. They will be available in Australia also as either the Toyota 86 or Subaru BRZ. Both the same chassis and engine with only minor aesthetic differences and suspension adjustments. Jump on www.ozft86.com.au/forums for info about how to pre-order one from a Toyota Dealer.

I've got a '96 v6 vienta and a '94 turbo mr2. between them, rego, maintenance and insurance adds up. so, consolidating into one car that's a compromise between the two (some boot and rear seats, but still good handling, etc) like the 86 would seem to make some sense. Whether it's a brand new purchase, or a 2nd hand one after a year or two is another question though....a supercharger would sure help with that decision though ;)

That's a good lineup. If you pick you insurance etc well, it's not going to be all too expensive @ all. I test drove the 86, it's nice, BUT NOT AN MR2 TURBO REPLACEMENT. Similar philosophy to a Mazda RX8, good dynamics, RWD but slower than the rotor.

Latest Wheels mag says the Porsche Caymen was the benchmark car, Toyota having bought a bunch of them during the development phase, and that the 86 is very, very good; in some ways better than the Cayman (especially regarding the rip-off prices we pay in Oz for Porsches, which was the topic of a letter to the editor in the same issue).
