Length wise it is shorter than the SW20, I'm surprised there is literally no length after the rear wheels. The boot is ridiculously small and I mean small. The SW20 can easily fit a 3 large briefcases in the boot. I know I've tried. the 86 due to the lack of height in the boot I say one and a half. Yes it does have fold down seats, but for me the security of not folding down the seat matters in terms of storage. Height wise, the SW20 is still lower. Probably by about 50mm or more. You can certainly see it. There is more headroom in the 86 hence the height difference.

Space wise still looks perfect, I wouldn't want it any bigger.

I'd probably have the rear seat folded down 'permanently' if I had one. Still MUCH more space than an MR2 behind the front seats. If you can fit 4 17" rims in the back then its WIN because you can't in a 2.

had a sit in one of them at the Toyota Winterfest here in melbourne interior is quite nice but a bit bland for me, the seats are very comfy. was suprised to see most parts are made by subaru, including the panels (which were also stamped subaru) oil filter etc lol. the starter motor i think was made by mitsubishi etc. i was having a chat to the guy from toyota who brought it down and he said the car was a techical service training vehicle, and most things are subaru apart from the fuel injection system. im quite interested to know if the ECU is from subaru, cause then it could possibly be flashed quite easily, unlike toyotas locked ecu system. cheers

Yeh I remember doing a bit of reading up and apparently most of it is Subaru. The difference between the boot from the pictures as far is I can tell is that the SW20's boot is deep but the 86 is swallow, however it can fold down so maybe both have decent volume, just different dimension ratios which can be good or bad depending on the luggage...

I got to park my SW20 next to an 86 tonight on the way home from a good drive. It was quite interesting to stand there for a while and look at the aesthetic differences. Though I quite like the 86, it made me appreciate the SW20 even more – and appreciate how it looks a bit more like a European coupe than a Japanese one in comparison. Shame I couldn't get better photos. There just wasn't enough light.

Test drive auto and manual. By far manual is much more enjoyable to drive.
Can't believe the price.
Quite tempting.

yes, still not as enjoyable as a normal manual. still have the auto feeling coming to a halt in traffic etc. but that is my personal preference.

fair enoughh still the best auto I've ever driven though. Having driven the auto one I'd actually consider it, whereas before I thought all autos were rubbish.

it's most definitely the best auto i've driven, and if i could only have an auto one, say for instance to keep the wife happy as she only has an auto licensce, then i'd still be happy driving it. but it's still an auto.

IMO reasons I see the manual having an advantage over the auto is launching and maybe clutch kicking it to get the tail out. however no manual driver can change gears in 0.2 sec though.

0.2 secs is a lifetime. VWs DSG changes in 0.04 secs. That's 5 times quicker

Highlander 0.2 secs is a lifetime. VWs DSG changes in 0.04 secs. That's 5 times quicker That may be the case, but at least you wont have to replace the box after 40k ;) This tech is from a Lexus These people saying toyota are scared of hyundai and other car manufactures have no idea. Toyota's technology is tried and tested. These people should ask themselves why Toyota holds its value and others don't.
