I took my tank out the other day, prob a whole 2 minutes!
(Air jacks plus everything was disconnected off it and no under trays or coolant pipes ect)
 
Had it in and out several times to work out few things i need to do to it.
 
Thought i posted this with some of the other sensors but guess i didnt, heres my fuel level sensor which was custom made (length and calibration for fuels) by Gill Sensors.
Basically is solid state (capacitive) so no moving parts so you can fill tank with foam and has a good configurable 0-5V output - connecting the factory sensor up to a digital dash just dosent work well, no matter how much i slow it down it still updates way to fast.
 
These sensors are used in all V8 supercars (altho bio fuel version) and Gill level sensors are used on everythign up to F1.

Bit pitty is the 5 bolt SAE pattern is ever so slightly different to the factory one! I knew it was goignt o be close, hoping would be the same. I have to make up a small adapter spacer, i factored that into the length i ordered altho will fit without spacer still, just.
Or i can drill (elongate) out the holes on the sensor a bit, that will work, but dont want to wreck or modify an expensive sensor.
To order custom sensor top would have been alot more expensive.

Yeah will have foam in the tank and its not like ill have my dash on that page showing fuel level when im driving, exp as most will be short runs like time attack / sprints / hill climb / club track days so its more just back in the pits to make sure i have enough fuel for the run but not too much.
 
Not that you realy see the colour when its installed on a MR2. A boot mount tank yes i suppose. Were they bio-fuel ones?
 
I guess you mean this colour? this is one of the Nissan V8 supercars, i took few pics when i was at there workshop.
 
 
No i didnt not order through Racer Ind. There is another Australian supplier aswell (altho i guess V8SC teams have to come via RI), but it was not through them as i saw there add in a mag after i had ordered it, got it from a guy in USA that does electricial for indycars.

Bit of a change, i have sold off my Vi-pec ecu and Racepak dash, power module, modules ect saved up some money and and replaced it all with Motec.
 
Each of the items i had were great on there own, for there price, its how they interfaced with each other was the limitation for me.
 
The Motec without question is much better, for each item there is just so much more it can do, such as logging up to 1,000hz instead of 100hz, log up to 1,000 channels, the dash has alot more warnings and warning/shift lights that can be configured ect, 4 configurable CAN buses, 2 RS232 ect and just alot more it can do behind the scenes.
 
The dash / data logger is the new Motec C185, was released month or 2 ago

 
The C185 has a single 79 pin Deutsch autosport connector, same as the ADL3 ect.

 
Powered it up and to test a few things, this was just running through a demo it has loaded on it. There are several screen layouts you can choose from, and you can have 3 pages you can scroll between, each can have different layout and channels shown, for example a warmup page can be just full of numbers to show temps, pressures, positions ect as your warming the car up before the race or a race page showing mainly just lap times (current lap, last lap, predicted lap time ect). Pressing a button (on my steering wheel) will toggle between the pages, and also scroll through channels on the bottom row.

Motec PDM 32, Power Distribution Module, replaces all the fuses / circuit breakers on the car. solid state. you can program the current limit individually for each output, automatic resets if it blows the 'fuse', i can see and log each outputs state (on/off/failed but will retry/failed and max retries reached ect) current draw and voltage.

 

 
Motec M880 ECU. (basically the same as the M800 ecu but with a autosport connector, advanced functions and logging already enabled)

The car was then rebuilt a bit, then sent overseas to be crash tested, they crash tested it head on with a wall, not to see what it does to the car, but to leave a inprint on the wall and get data, to see what it did to the wall, so they can understand more what happens, to then improve side impact on the cars ect. Motec (Racegrade/Greyhill) CAN keypad. Each button can be programmed to do anything, all is sent over the CAN. Each button has 3 LEDs, again can be programmed, usually to show if the output or function the button is controlling is turned on or off or has a fault ect

I seem to spend all my spare time helping other people, then when i need a hand everyone is too busy. 
 
Plus hard to find motivation most times.
 
I spent money that i had saved up for other items like brakes, so will be a while before i can get them sorted out.

Cant make the engine loom and engine bay loom till the motor is in, but the cabin loom, which is the most complex loom should be done yes.
 
For now ill be staying 4cyl 2.2L turbo.
 
Havent done anything about gearbox/axles ect yet.

nice choices. Updat the software and firmware for the c185, they were a little bit glitchy in the early firmware editions. Your not going to run a motec 10hz gps?? Whichever way you go, make sure the gps is into the dash or vim, not the ecu, as they can only handle a 5hz gps signal.
any reason you didnt want to step up and try the new m1xx ecus, their processing speed is a lot quicker, and can handle a hell of a lot.
hopefully when you get the car up and running you will run a hdvcs unit, and if you ever upgrade to pro logging, you can run everything in i2pro and watch everything with the overlayed from your logging.
