Thanks to Andrew for the lift and providing no roof to allow such pics, turned out not the best, but was camera phone, bumpy ride and sun beaming down.

heres some pics of my stereo install thats im just doing

im going with the following option
cause i was lookign to do somethign different while still retaining the use of the targa top storge behind the seats while also having a subwoofer and 2 matching amps on the firewall

i have 2 ORION amps (cheapest small amp i could find)70RMSx2/ bridged 150RMS
front speakers are JBL GTO637 coaxials 60RMS running of one amp
sub is the QMAX invisibass 6.5 inch sub 130RMS running bridged off the second amp
no rear speakers

this is an elcheapo install and im using some of my previous stuff

like the coaxials i was determined to use them as i got them when i was visiting india my hometown i went along with my childhood friends ( i grew up on an island so pretty much everyone there is ur friend) to get them, some of them have it in their car as well so i wanted to use them just for the memories
and yeah the speakers were bought while a riot was happenign 10 min away lol and we were on motorbikes clasping onto the speakers and still tryign to to get into trouble with the mob that was rioting

both the amps i bought using a gift voucher i had from JB hifi

subwoofer was an ebay bargain

some of the wiring i used from my old stereo install and bought some new wiring as well

sound deadning i bought from jaycar $25 for 2 sheets that were more than enough for just coverign the back of the speaker where it fires against the door and some also used where the speakers mount onto the doors to prevent vibration

also sprayed the inside of the door trims with spray on sound deadner from supercheap $25 odd gets u two cans one for each door trim

now for the stuff i did

i rewired the stock wiring harness after the previous owner buthchered the stock stereo harness
then wired and installed the JVC headunit

ran 4 gauge wiring from front trunk into cabin (PITA)and then split into a pair of 8 gauges wiring via a distibution block to two amps mounted on firewall
one runs the front speakers other runs the small 6.5 inch qmax subwoofer

also at the same time ran the rca cables for the signals to amp

along with new speaker wiring from amps to the doors
had to run wiring throught the stock rubber harness in the door which was a PITA

then sealed all the holes in the doors and sound deadened a bit of the doors where the speakers were installed ( didnt want to spend too much money on the install)

fire wall carpet out
you can also see the small patch of black rubber sound deadner i used on the firewall to stop any heat from getting to the amps also bought from jaycar(could have done a better job but i was in a hurry and lack of $$$)

shifter surround/middle trim removed

rca looms reminated in the center console trim where the headunit will be installed

headunit installed

amp installed in driver side firewall with carpet on

amp in the passneger side firewall

i edite out some of the pics as they wrent working
iil try and post them later on and hopefully they will work

still a bit more to go iil update when im finished
i forgot to take pics of the speakers installed into the doors

Many thanks to Andrew (Dasic1) on the forums for trimming my firewall carpet to fit the amps on short notice

install isn't complete yet

the sub has to be housed in a custom enclosure which i hope to complete and hopefully it will fit in the storage space and work well fingers crossed [;^)]

the carpet needs to be fitted in properly as they are jumping out here and there

few other bits and pieces like putting back the center console etc etc

cheers

Half the pics dont work. With your amp install did you just drill it straight into the firewall or is there a false floor behind it?

Does anyone think its a bad idea to screw the amp into the firewall? Any structual problems?

yeah
im trying to fix the pics
this forum is acting up some work some dont work

firewall is twin chambered (has one piece of metal inside the cabin and anbother piece outside on the engine bay with a gap between the two metal sheets)so looked ok to me to install the amps

Do you know how far you drilled into the firewall? I went against drilling into it and made a false floor which is liquid nailed to the firewall but I might change it down the track.

Looks like you cut your carpet as well? Why not just put the amp ontop of the carpet and make slits for the wires?

firewall wasnt drilled into
i used a screwdriver and gently hammered into the metal
then screwed into it slowly
as u perobably know by now the firewall is not straight its got a bend in it so the screws didnt actually go very far into it

car runs so its all ok i think

cutting the carpet-------- i wanted to be different afaik i havent seen one done like what ive just done yet lol

plus having the amp recessed into the carpet you can still store tha traga tops there
if its on the carpet u can't store tha targa tops

yes people can complain why i chose a smaller woofer and that it wont sound good yada yada and a bigger sub would have given better bass with lesser effort

but i wanted to do it this way
each to their own mate

cheers

Its not like your cutting anything out, its only 4 1/8 holes per side

Edit Would be if he had of drilled it.

Sorry, I didn't mean actually drilling. I explained that poorly.

Anyway I never said anything about a subwoofer purple5 but thanks for clearing that up. I have a 12' alpine type S behind my passenger seat and my amp on my side and fit both targas behind my seat without any problems and Im close to 6'1 so there is plenty of room [:x)]
